TUS Eligability

    Hi there.

Quick question regarding the TUS Programme eligibility. I received a letter to attend an interview for this and am not sure if I should have been selected. I had a look at the citizensinformation website and called them and they seem to think that I shouldn't be eligible but are not sure.

    The information here states:
To be eligible to participate in the Tús scheme you must:

    - Have been continuously unemployed for at least 12 months and "signing on" on a full-time basis; and
    - Have been receiving a jobseeker's payment (Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance) from the Department of Social Protection for at least 12 months; and
    - Be currently receiving Jobseeker's Allowance.

I am currently on JA and have been since last May when I came off BTEA.

Can anyone clear this up? Does "BTEA = signing on" in this case? Or should i not meet the eligibility requirements until May?
I still plan on going to the interview and seeing if there is anything beneficial to me but would like clarification on this.

    Thanks if anybody can help.

that is the criteria for eligibility all right, what DSP are probably doing is preparing people for TUS as soon as they meet the 12 months unemployed rule.

    Thanks danjo-xx.
It appears that that's not the case either. I asked the local SW office and they said ask the TUS interviewers about it. I asked the TUS interviewers about it and they said ask the SW office about it.

Had my interview with TUS just now. They said that they might have something for me starting soon. It sounded interesting enough really but I have doubts about spending my time on this for what little benefit I would gain. Especially if I should not even have been selected.

For what it's worth the whole thing seems like a good scheme and I can see how it would be extremely beneficial to people. The interviewers were very good and seem extremely helpful. The positions (the ones they mentioned anyway) don't seem to be as useless as I feared.
But I am not even a year out of education and am spending my time wisely while actively trying to find a position. Spending 20 hours a week for little gain is not something I had planned upon.

Should I even be in this situation? Do I even meet eligibility for this?

Typical run around they put us through. :(
might have something for you soon

Taking on board your wishes I would go back to welfare and say you had your interview with tus who said they might have something for you soon, but were unable to confirm my eligibility for this scheme and that I was to check this with you people.

At least if you get confirmation that you will not qualify until 12 months, then you know where you stand. IF they can by pass this rule if they choose then you have a problem.

If you turn down schemes or training without good reason then you may get your payment cut.
