Help with cabling issue - Saor view signal week in one room

    Morning,

I'm having problems with the saor view signal in an upstairs bedroom, while 2 other TV's in the house are getting a very good signal. Here's what I've done so far to test the signals..

I have a UHF aeriel in the attic and have individually wired each rooms coax cable to the UHF aeriel to test each connection and only one point has a problem.
I've also used an amplifier and still getting the same result.
I've moved the TV from the bedroom downstairs to test on a known good coax cable and signal strength is very good
I've re-terminated the end of the coax cable in the wall plate and also checked the connection plug at the other end. All looks fine

The TV is a Samsung LED TV and Bit error level is also high along with low signal level when it's connected to the bedroom wall point. The signal improves a little depending on where i'm standing in the room, or if I hold the connecting cable between the TV and the wall point.

Is this a faulty cable going back up to the attic or some sort of interference ?

Hope this all makes sense, hard to explain :)

Probably. However, I doubt that you have the equipment to do the necessary tests so all I can suggest is that you lay a temporary double-screened cable along the floor and down the stairs and test with that. If that's OK, remove the wall plate and connect the cable through that, to test it. Many problems are caused by unscreened wall plates and faulty fly-leads. That's the connection from the wall plate to the equipment.

    Many thanks for your reply.

I've just swapped the face plate with the one from downstairs and sane problem, so has to be the cable so I presume.

Will get some new cable and run it down from the attic as you suggest. I'll post back this evening with an update.

    Cheers

Just to follow up, I ran new cable from the attic to TV in the bedroom, terminated and all working great :)

That's good news. You see, you can speculate for days but, in the end, you'll only find the culprit by swapping things as you did. :)
