I've got a Corsair AX850 (850 Watt) and want to use a 2nd graphics card in SLI (a 580). I've only got the power slots marked in green in the image free. Is there and adaptor that will take me from say 2x6 pin to 12 pin?

You can get 1 x molex to 6 pin adaptors and 2 x molex to 8 pin adaptors.

It's the other end you need adaptors for :p

There's probably sata power to 6 and 8 pin adaptors as well.

Looking at the PSU you should have 4 X (6+2) pcie connectors out of the box on an AX850, which should be everything you need for a second GTX 580?

Thanks for the replies. The only connector I have now is an 12 pin that splits into a 8 and a 6. Could I pick up two cables – 6>6 and 8>8, like below?

Having never bought these before, I want to make sure that there's not different types of the same cable.

You should only use the cables that came with your psu... and in the correct slots, powering what they're meant to power. (check manual)

The corsair ax850 comes with enough connections to power 2 580's, if your missing some then contact corsair for replacements.

You should have the extra cable to do the job...I have the same psu and it came with enough cables to run my 2x 7970`s... If you have lost it this what you need

Thanks for the replies. I've had a dig about and found a an 8pin to 8pin. So I just need to pick up a 6pin to 6pin. Checked the corsair website using the link above and found the delivery is crazy expensive ($40). Is there anywhere else this can be bought?

Also from that link I couldn't tell if the opposite side is 6 pin or more. Is it obvious to anyone here?

I will take a look when I get home around lunch time at what mine is... I may even have a spare floating around

I have two 7970's on an AX 850 same as dwighet, pretty sure it came with 4 x PCI-e cables-the '6&2'type so you can use them as either 6 or 8 pins. Thing to watch igrizzly as 580's are hungry bastards power-wise, 360W on full load each.

If you plan on overclocking, an 850W PSU does not leave you with a lot of headroom.

    I had a 580 a while ago and the whole pc only drew 300-320w playing bf3 with GPU @ 100 percent. For comparison it was 260w with a 570, ~220 with 670/660 ti/560 ti, 190 with gtx 660 and 140 with 7770/650 ti.

Yeah typical GPU power consumption while actually gaming is usually much lower than running something like furmark, where you probably could draw well over 300W from an overclocked 580. So unless someone were running benchmark software simutaneously two heavily overclocked 580 and a heavily overclocked CPU at the same time, which would probably not the best of ideas, an 850W would be fine.
