Hey, the teachers I have don't read from the book. They all seem to know their stuff. They give out handouts and I haven't been asked to purchase a book.

Some may recommend good books to read, but I haven't been told that I must purchase any book.

    Hope this helps.

A very limited number of courses might need books, Nursing is one that I can think of, but mostly you are not expected to get books.

Many thanks for the replies. I'm a little clearer now.

I don't suppose anyone that studies communications or computer applications might tell me a little about those courses? The website syllabus is crazy dated. 97 anyone?

Probably the reason that it is confusing is because the system is changing from this year. Someone else giving you information might not be any help if you are on the new system and they are on the old one.

Are you looking to do a course, or doing one at present? I think you are misreading the 97 business. Can you be a bit more specific about what you are trying to find out, and preferably what the numbers of the modules are?

I tried to find the specific course modules on the Monaghan website as there can be some variations, but basically the computer applications module involves an introduction to spreadsheets, databases and graphics. At level 4 this would be pretty basic.

this is the module, but you could end up more confused by reading it than you are now :D

Communications is as the name suggests, a course which deals with all forms of communication between people including person to person, written, telephone, advertising etc.

The module is http://www.fetac.ie/doc/WelcomeServlet?DocId=0901df9e80002207 again this makes the subject look way more complicated than it actually is as it is presented in class.

I cannot guarantee that is information is exactly correct as this is the old information which may be relevant, or you might be doing the newer modules which might be slightly different. It would be similar though.
