PSU is plenty good. I think the general consensus is that the 7870 is much better bang for buck.

    This one Suffice??

Thinks it's only 20 - 30 quid compared to the GT

    Cheers.

I would seriously consider a Tahiti 7870 if one can be found for cheap. The Tahiti 7870s that are on offer are the Club3D Joker 7870, VTX3D Black edition and the PowerColor 7870 Myst Edition. The VTX3D can be had for £180 on Amazon but I'm not sure on the shipping costs from the seller. The Tahiti 7870 is about 2% slower than the 7950.

Cheers Marco, think I am willing to play it safe and order off my german buds.

Also, Thanks Tij, although that Tahiti 7870 seems mega rare.

Looks like I'm staying AMD for another while :P

The EVGA 660 is 199 on Dabs at the moment with free shipping and a free copy of Assassins Creed III, pretty good value.

Mmm 200 bucks delivered to the door ain't bad, I'd certainly throw it back into consideration for that sort of money.

The EVGA model has a crap cooler.

Stick with sapphire, gigabyte or asus.

I'd go with sapphire dual-x as their trixx software is great for overclocking + the cooler is solid and the prices are among the best.

That is a good offer though.

What's wrong with the cooler on the EVGA, the 660 is very limited on power draw, heat is not a factor when overclocking it.

Sorry my bad. I forgot nvidia cards are voltage locked anyway so it doesn't matter.

I would suggest getting an ati 7870 instead as they just have way more overclocking headroom.

If you aren't overclocking then go with that 660, it's a good deal.

Bank transfers can take some time. Shipping is very fast, 3 days excluding weekends.

Correct and right, she's on the way!

Thanks for all your help again guys. :)

  • Sorry to bump this thread..

Have my 7870 ghz edition set up,

I have been trying to find the max 12V output for my PSU.

    http://lb.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=30069&agid=1628

I want to make sure that this and my Phenom II x4 955 Overclocked to 3.9 are not throttling.
I will provide exact Overclock details (Core multiplier, voltage increase etc..) when I get home if this is required and also run furmark for testing.

    Anyone know?

I wouldn't worry, you have plenty of headroom with that PSU.

It rated for a max combined 12V output of 41A which is loads

    OK so working with that, my current motherboard is ASRock 770 Extreme3, Sockel AM3;

Would it even be worth upgrading CPU condisering this is the supported list for the motherboard, or just stick with the 955 OC to 3.9 and wait until I switch motherboard?

    http://www.asrock.com/mb/cpu.asp?Model=770%20Extreme3

I would like to stick with this mainboard for now. But would also like to put the best CPU possible into it.

I wouldn't bother with a new CPU, the increase in performance would be fairly small, esp when you have a nice OC on your current CPU.

OK, what I will try and do is raise the multiplier a bit more as it's the black edition and adjust vcore as needed using AMD overdrive. If I could get it to 4.2 with stability and good temps I will be happy.

I have the Arctic Freezer xtreme Rev 2.0 cooler just to note.

    Any tips?

I would overclock in the bios, its the correct way to overclock. You should get better results that way.

Read this it is the best guide bar none to Phenom II overclocking IMO.

In fairness Overdrive isn't a bad way to quickly get a rough idea of how far you can push things, although when you get to the fine tuning stage its definately time to hit the bios alright.
