End-of-Year Taxback and Jobseekers Benefit?

Just a quick query for a friend:

He was claiming Jobseekers Benefit after he left the army, and got a job at the end of October, part time doing truck deliveries. He went on the x&o and got let go Xmas week, and has applied to go back on Jobseekers Benefit (he's been told his payment will be there tomorrow). What he wants to know is, after getting an email from irishjobs.ie reminding him to claim his tax back for the year, would he be entitled to tax back, and how would claiming it affect his JB? I read up on it for him, but it doesn't seem to make much sense
Tried the calculator on taxback.com and it suggested he was due back a very considerable amount of money, in fact, all of the tax and USC he had paid since he got the job in October. It seems a bit odd that he would be entitled to all of it?

Tax refunds will not effect JSB.
