Another Saddle query....

    Hi Folks,

Can anyone recommend a bike shop that offers a saddle fitting service, measurement of sit bones etc, or even one that will let you trial a saddle for a week or too before buying to see if it is the right saddle for you?

My stock bike saddle makes my backside numb after around 15-20km and then I spend the rest of the spin shifting about on it to try and ease the pain.

Any help much appreciated, as it's starting to do my head in...

Are you new to cycling and are you using padded shorts?
If you took up cycling recently it's normal to be sore/numb for a while.

The other option is to get a leather Brooks saddle such as the B17 model. It takes a good while to "break in" but will adapt to your sit bones.

Thanks for the response, started cycling in November, I always use padded shorts and I have done around 800km so far which I thought would be enough to get used to a saddle. Is the B17 suitable for a road bike? I've heard good things about Brooke's saddles from other threads but I don't want to fire good money after bad, but willing to try anything at the same time...!

The B17 is the road version of the famous brand.

I got one from Santa and have about 600kms on it. It's just starting to break in now. It was difficult for the first few hundred kms. I didn't have a major problem with stock saddles but did find them uncomfortable on rides exceeding 100kms.

saddle fitting service, measurement of sit bones etc

A Brooks saddle will carry out this service itself never mind going to the bloody shop!! :D:D:D

Bedding in time varies, I've about 600k or thereabouts on mine and its super comfy but was well on the way by about the 100k mark.
I'd recommend giving it plenty of leather feed to help the process though.
An added feature you don't necessarily get with many other saddles is that they are beautifull to look at & are a quality item.
A big thumbs up from me!!!

Ended up buying a B17 today, I hope all the hype is worth it, looking forward to trying it out and breaking it in!
