Well just felt I had to say it,

Less than a week ago I returned from holidays to Dublin airport where due to my broken/locked laser card I only had €5 left. I went up to a Dublin bus driver and said does this bus bring you to Heuston station. He said no but that if i get the 767 it will bring me directly there. I said i know but I only have €5 so ill get this bus into town then get the luas to Heuston.

The bus driver proceeded to reach into his pocket, pull out a euro and give it to me. I refused but he insisted that I got the 767 as it would make my journey easier. As a result of his actions I will use dublin bus as much as possible out of respect for this man and the service he provided.

I just want to say thanks to this man as he unconditionally gave me money without me even asking. Sometimes we brand all bus drivers/taximen as ass£(*"*£ just because of a select few bad ones, when in reality the vast majority of them are lovely people.

Anyway thank you very much Mr.Bus Driver, your one decent, kind, lovely man. Dublin Bus, your lucky to have people like him working for you as he provides so a good image of the company!

i'd bet 95% of DB drivers are just as decent...as usually it's the small percentage that ruin the reputation of all...

    good post.

Did you get his name, or what time/route he was driving? You should pass this on to Dublin Bus in an email. He'd appreciate it if his bosses got your email!

Are you an attractive young female perchance? Normal procedures about opening the door after the bus has left the stop, letting the passenger away without the full fare etc seem to go out the window when they're involved.

We would like to apologise for the temporary break in normality, however it now appears the problem has been addressed and the games can resume

Mind you,if you were getting a 767 i'd be a wee bit suss about that driver meself.......:D

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

That's great, fair play! Drivers can get enough stick in the job, it can be fantastic when one of your superiors tells you that a customer wrote in just to say how helpful you were!

By the way, do Dublin Bus have any kind of prize or award for drivers who demonstrate excellent customer service? I know drivers can be awarded for things like "such and such a number of years with no accidents" etc.
