    Hi everyone,
    * sorry for the long post! *
I'm a bit lost as to what to even write or where to start.
Basically, I'm over weight and need/REALLY WANT to lose most of it.
I suffer from very bad bouts of IBS which is the reason I gained so much weight initially.

To give you all a bit of a back story (if it helps)...

I was always a bit heavy, not excessively over weight but there was always a bit of extra bulk. In 2008 I started losing weight for no reason (that was obvious to me) and quite quickly. Every week I needed a new pair of jeans I was losing weight so fast. I went from a size 16 to a small size 12 in a number of months. Needless to say I was delighted and loved going shopping etc...

2010 I could see the weight creep back on and while doing a 'study from home' degree it crept on and in 2011 I ballooned. While all this was going on, I was suffering with IBS which had not been diagnosed because the consultant 'forgot about me' (<- his exact words)

So now I'm 27, 5'6 and tipping 14stone :( It has really affected my daily moods and self esteem.

I want to be back to my size 12 again. I have a pair of designer jeans I bought when I was that small a few years ago and I HAVE to get back into them.
An old friend from school invited me to her Hen Party in March which is roughly 10 weeks from now and I want to have a good chunk of weight off for that weekend.
What's holding me back from doing anything about it so far:
    1. Huge lack of money for buying good foods instead of the cheaper 'own' brand processed stuff.
    2. I'm afraid of doing any 'training' on my own following either apps or internet stuff as (i) I want to make sure I'm doing it right and not injuring myself (ii) I've no idea of fitness lingo!
    3. No gym close by

Can someone please advise me on how I can lose some weight in a healthy way without having to do Slimming World or any of those fads..

    Thanks for reading,
    Desperate Tunage!

Why are you setting your self up to fail with such a deadline .

Lidl or Adli veg 49 to 69 cent on special offer every week. €6.90 will keep you in veg for a week . 10 chicken fillets for a €10 , €16.90 and you're pretty much sorted.

Join a local sports team? Or just get out and run. However beware that diet it by far the biggest factor in weight lose .

    Thanks for the reply LeinsterDub..

While I do shop in those places, it's not always easy for me to get to them as I don't live in a big city/town and it costs me money to get to those places before even doing any shopping... and I'm pretty sure there's more to healthy eating than chicken and veg?

I'm not saying I want to be a size 12 in 10 weeks, I want to not be nearly 14 stone is what I meant.

I also don't understand what you are saying in your last two sentences.

Seriously calling a spade to spade you are making excuses right left and centre here! No offence but losing weight or getting in shape takes time...the same way putting it on takes time.stop putting roadblocks up for yourself. there are aldis and lidls all over this country..id love to know where you live that you cant get to one of these to pick up cheap veg/fruit etc... Im in zero doubt that you could eat for a week heatlhy on 35 or 40 euro..read the stickies at the top of the homepage here...

Myfittnesspal is a smart phone app and website to track the amount of calories you ingest (I say ingest as opposed to eat as a lot of people drink addional calories in the form of beer and soft drinks). Track everything you put in your mouth !
    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

Weight lose is simple maths. Calories used > Calories ingest = Weight lose.

Also make 1 trip a month to Aldi or Lidl, cook and freeze the veg.

Remember you are changing your diet not on a diet. Don't don't do things you can't keep up in the long term. Make small changes . For example I use to have tea and 2 slices of toast with Jam for my breakfast at about 250 Cals. I changed to 100 cals worth of porridge instead ,saving 150 cals every day and I don't feel any more hungry

Some simple tips which will not cost you a penny.

    1. Stop eating anything that contains wheat.
    2. Spend week one reading up on macronutrients and understanding your daily requirement for weight loss.
    3. Youtube - hundreds of videos of equipment free workouts you can do at home - bodyrock tv for example.
    4. Don't drink alcohol.
    5. Stop reading, stop thinking, stop talking, stop posting on the internet and DO it.

You could be 12 and a half stone by the end of ten weeks (or more) if YOU want.
But only if YOU do it.

    Good luck.

I don't buy into this. You can lose weigh and still have wheat and alcohol. It may suit you not others and you shouldn't be posting them as must do's.

I'll lose weight if I do nothing but drink wheat beer once it's less than my daily requirements. Now I won't be healthy but I can lose weight. Sure they could be 12.5 stone but what's the point if its based on a fad diet?

I'm giving the lady what I consider good advice.
I'm not arsed having a hypothetical argument with you about a woman with IBS consuming wheat beer for the craic.

PS: Read my signature for your spelling error.

    Thank you everyone...

While I know (for the last year probably) that I've been putting off properly getting started with my weight loss, this is my first time to seek advice at a place where there are people with the right advice.

I read Dr. Allan Carr's Weightloss book and regardless of what peoples opinions are on these sorts of things, it worked for me. I lost 1/2 a stone by simply changing what I ate.. no fad diet, no weekly weigh-in's infront of others etc.. being sick at Christmas and New Year put me off track and now I want to get back into the stride again.

    Here goes.. and thanks again!

also this is a HEALTH and fitness forum so people aee going to post advic which promotes a healthy approach to questions posed....im not gonna say ...stop eating...she will lose weight but not healthy. cutting out wheat will make the OP healthier so it was posted as advice!

Hi - I got to the point that I needed to loose so much weight I had no idea where to start, finally in late May at 16 stone 7lb I decided to try Slimming World opting to low carb within the plan. On Dec 21st I weighed in at 11 stone 11lb - I have gone totally off plan since but started again yesterday with a basic primal plan.
For me I find I bloat and get stomach pains after bread or rice - and it lasts for days not hours - so I'm going grain free, dairy free except for fat free milk in tea and no added sugar. Although I do eat porridge a couple of days a week.
I did a big shop in Aldi of butternut squash, leeks, potatoes (all 79c), loads of other veg and fruit, lean mince, bacon off cuts and a 30% off chicken, eggs and coconut milk for pancakes. One packet of biscuits & brown bread for the kids & yoghurts. I made a basic meal plan before I went out and have accounted for double meals from things like the bacon - I have it cut into pieces with spinach and tomatoes for breakfast - 2 days , in a soup/stew with leeks and squash - does me and 2 kids for dinner 1 day , boiled and then in a mushroom sauce with pasta for the kids and on veg stir fry for me. The chicken will also do us 2 dinners and a big pan of soup.
Cost is a big factor for me and why I don't buy organic meat & while it may be cheaper to eat processed foods, we now eat less and better than we did before.
Good Luck - making a start is the hardest bit. I haven't heard of Alan Carr's book but I did read Melissa Peer's You Can be Thin & I think it's a great tool.

Thanks boxercreations! Congratulations on your weight loss :-)

I haven't heard of that book but will defo look out for it. I liked Allan Carr's (not the comedian) because there was no 'you must eat this and not eat this'.. it was like self hypnosis to learn when you're full and when your probably thirsty and not hungry at all. Eventually you sort of trick yourself into not eating the crap and preferring the good stuff.

One of my reasons for asking on here was to get a good idea of meals etc.. Everyday for dinner I'm stuck as to what to have. I don't want to prepare meals that I think are healthy and good for my weight loss when they're not. Do you know what I mean?

Basically if you cook from scratch you can't go too far wrong. I don't eat fish and some people will eat nothing but chicken as it has less calories than mince or pork but I want my kids to eat the same meals and try new foods as well. Plus eat tasty food not diet food.
From a chicken we will have a roast chicken dinner - I take the juices off the chicken once it has cooked for an hour and put in fridge to cool and skim fat off. Use half to add to a small spoon gravy. Roast parsnips, squash and sweet potato in oven on a tray. Boil a couple baby pots for the kids and then add some frozen green beans for a few mins. (Minimum gas use and minimum washing up:)). Watch out for extra gravy, stuffing, butter on veg that's were the extra cals are. Next night I'll do a Thai curry with loads of veg and some chicken breast. Finally the carcass is stripped for my fave chicken stew - this uses up all the wrinkly veg I might have.
There's a blog called slimming eats - some good recipe ideas on there but watch the carb portions!

Funny thing is it doesn't stay in your mind as a trick - it becomes true. I had never eaten porridge until last year, now it's the one thing I can't give up!
Also was craving something "nice" last night and what I wanted was something with nuts and cranberries - not processed stuff. When you eliminate crap from your diet it just stops having an impact.

Before Christmas when I had finished reading the book, we started buying in more veg and I always made a point of making sure it wasn't covered in salt or butter so I do without. My one huge downfall is butter. I fricking love the stuff so we've switched to LowLow Light or something and i use it very very sparingly now.

I just need the motiviation to go back to the routine I had started before Christmas which helped me lose 1/2 a stone without even really trying hard!

I love fish but my o/h doesn't so what I usually do is make a little parcel for myself e.g. salmon with some rice and he'll have chicken and rice.

Thanks boxercreations, you've boosted the motivation already! :-)

Operation Transformation is on tonight - 50 sit ups, 50 star jumps and 100 step ups whilst watching it ... twice ... (I keep saying have no time/babysitter so can go walking/gm - it's a start) ....
I use clarified butter (ghee) to cook - make it myself - totally off all the artificial & low fat stuff. When I'm not eating grains I hardly use much at all and eating some fat helps you feel satiated after a meal.
