I'd say your best bet would be to get on one of the Malahide road buses from Fairview, 27, 27A, 15, 43, and get off at the junction of Malahide road and Tonleegee road, and then get a 17A on the Tonleegee road and get off on Santry Avenue (the third stop on Santry Avenue) and cross the road and walk to Northwood.

I'm in the exact same situation as yourself (living in Fairview, working in Northwood). I walk into Drumcondra and get the 41 from there but I don't mind the walk on either side. I do it because I only need to worry about one bus.

The only other options involve two buses:

15/27 to the Tonlegee Road/Malahide Road junction and get the 17A. This would be the most direct option.
14 to Beaumont Road and get a 16 from there to the Swords Road/Santry Avenue junction.

It's an extremely long route though. Also, the morning services usually terminate at Coolock Lane, requiring a walk over the M1 at a busy junction.
