    Hi,

Does anyone have any ideas/ feedback on which insurance companies are the best to work for (in a sales or customer service role) or which companies to avoid at all costs?

How do they treat their staff/ is the pay good or bad/ do they encourage you to sit exams etc?

Anyone working for 123.ie, AXA, FBD, Liberty, Aoninsure, Nononsense etc have any good or bad feedback?

    Thanks!

Are you asking because you have a prospective job in a particular Insurance company or you would just like to get into the Insurance Game?

I currently work for 1 of the companies you have mentioned and have worked for others before.

I can tell you Liberty are a great company to work for. They treated me very well and the benefits were fantastic. However this was before the takeover and I am not sure if things have changed.

Just looking to start a career in Insurance- and therefore don't have any insurance qualification/ exams yet!!

Was going to apply to the vast majority of insurance companies to see who had vacancies etc but on the other hand- if any insurance companies treat their employees badly or who pay very poorly- wanted to avoid applying to those!

All advice appreciated as new to the insurance game!
    :)

Your first foot in the door will probably be as a call center agent.

Not the nicest of jobs tbh but its a foot in the door. (sales is ok, customer care can be a nightmare but can be easier to get sponsored for the exams).

Not necessarily, you could be lucky and get in as an underwriting assistant. If you manage to get this type of role you will be pretty much guaranteed education assistance as the company will generally want to up skill you to become an underwriter.

That's true, it's rare though tbf

It is rare but if you keep a look out for any kind of commercial insurance company you could come across these types of roles. Also another route would be to start in an Insurance Brokers. Brokers do not need the same level of qualifications or experience as Insurance Underwriters. This route will enable you to make invaluable contacts for the future. Also there are a lot more brokers than there are Insurance companies.

The thing to remember is tho that when you are starting out you are always going to be seen as the Junior and expected to pay your dues. It's just the way of the industry.

Still the same, I know four people working there, they all enjoy it

A family member works for one of the mentioned, the company pays poor and there has been alot of threats by management to force through benefit cuts....

I work for one of the above companies in sales. The basic is good and commission very good compared to others, just to give an idea the on target earnings are €35k with some agents making over €50k, I got just over €40k without much overtime. Customer service money on the other hand is €26k and I wouldn't do it for twice that. Hope that helps

If you have any language skills Allianz healthcare are always looking for staff in their claims department. Money isn't fantastic, the same as customer service, but no frontline customer interaction, and they sponsor you for the exams which you must complete within 3 years of joining AFAIK. They also give regular incremental salary increases (at 18mths, 24mths, 36mths onwards). A friend's wife just started there - she speaks Arabic. Its long hours Mon and Tues which is just given as TOIL, but that means you build up extra leave very quickly. She says its a bit pressured and not brilliant, but a good start for her in insurance and the fact that she is going into claims processing straight away rather than customer service is the positive for her.

Zurich In Wexford take on a lot of grads, currently there's vacancies on jobs.ie, and they pay all the CIP exam charges.

I have an interview with Aviva on Tuesday for a customer service position. They've conducted a phone interview with me earlier today and invited me to come for a face-to-face one. Would just like to know what the job is like (call centre) and what to expect for the face to face interview.
