I am currently running a 53/39 but I am really struggling on the hills lately and I’m thinking maybe a compact would suit me better…
Can I change the inner ring from a 39 to a 34 or would I have to buy a complete new crankset..?
    Thanks..!

    I'll swap you a compact 105 5750 chainset for your double :D

Other option would be to buy a wider cassette. If you have a medium cage derailluer you can go up to 30 teeth on the rear.

with a ratio of 39:30 you'd be able to climb pretty much anything without much hassle and it costs a lot less than a new crankset.

When in doubt, rule #5. ;)

A normal short cage 6700 rear mech will work perfectly with a 12-30 cassette. I have been running one on a bike with a normal 53-39 double for the last 4 months. The only adjustment needed was a couple of turns on the b-screw.
