theres a 1km long strip of pubs and restaurants in the middle of town and a few traditional beerhalls that are also handy nearby that area.

Aside from that Düsseldorf has Europes largest population of Japanese so theres plenty of Japanese bars and restaurants about town that are worth investigating, most near-ish the station.

The local rich have a strip too of all the Pradas and Guicci shops called Königsalle (or something along those lines). Its supposedly the richest city in Germany.

its a city that really doesnt need a guidebook to find whats going on seeing as its all easily accessable downtown and not spreadout like say Berlin or Paris.

young germans swear by Prinz magazine for events, pubs restaurants and clubs and whatnot
for Düsseldorf this is the page :
    http://duesseldorf.prinz.de/

its in German but if you view it in Chrome it'll offer to translate it for you or if not then enter the start page in google translate and you'll get the same effect.

I'm in Munich which is over 600km away (to put it in perspective Cork - Derry is only 450km!) so I wouldnt be any good for any specific tips on whats happening unfortunately
