I have just picked up a speeding ticket in Belfast. I live in Belfast and have a UK licence. A work mate just told me that no prob, all you need is a mate in the south that will agree to you puttiing them down as the "Named Driver". I have one such volunteer.
Will this work? I did it before for a guy but it was the other way round, he had a ticket in the south that I took the rap for 2 years ago and there was no word of it since. Have they amalagated the systems now?

Did you get stopped and show your licence or was it a speed camera?

    Illegal!

No, it was a camera, letter came to my door. A few years ago it was a no brainer, systems were not connected so "Joe From another Jurisdiction" could be put down as the named driver and that was the end of it. Provided you knew a foreign Joe you were ok.
PS Lots of things are illegal, that litle 10 sec call you took while you were driving for instance. It's only a problem if your caught.
At the time this other guy was "Test driving" my car. Is the burdon of proof not on the authorities !!

Naming someone in the south to take the fall for you is calling perverting the course of justice and in NI that means serious porridge at her majesty's pleasure.

Will the camera not also show the face of the driver?

Penalty points systems aren't linked yet . I dont know what the story with fines are.

The way I see it is I brought the car to the town to let this guy test drive it. I drove past that spot a few times, the other guy also drove past it. Firstly it needs to go to court to compare my face to the driver ( even if they are visible ) Should it be obvious that it is indeed my mug in the photo then it must have been one of the times I was driving. My story is bullet proof lol, obviously should it go before courts I will have a fine and points if my face is shown but other wise I have a guy that is willing to say "He drove that road in the same car around the same time". Just don't want to find out that systems are linked and the other guy gets points on his licence. No prob paying the few quid of a fine, it's the points I want to get rid of.

As the owner, it is up to you to either accept the penalty, or else provide details of the driver. If the driver does not accept it was them, then as the vehicle owner it falls back on you.

Just pay it and move on.

If it does go to court, then they will have a photo, and it will end up with a much larger fine. I'm not 100% sure on the points but I did think the systems were now linked.

What peeves me ( and probably every other driver that gets a marginal ticket ) is that I was over taken by another car the same day on the inside hard shoulder and this car was doing 100 if he was moving at all. I remember thinking to myself, where are the cops when you need them. They were there alright, clocking me at 6mph over the limit.

Do you fancy a state sponsored holiday in HMP Maghaberry?

This is the last time I'll let someone from the south test drive my car! Now I have to take the rap for it

Hardly "serious" time. You barely even get that for rape up here for god's sake.
I think the main question is - are the points system's linke? Ignore the circumstances! :p
I was stopped a few years ago in the south. I paid the fine but the points didn't transfer to my UK license.
