    Folks

I'm just looking to see if anyone had any info on getting a custom mouthguard done by a dentist, where they went...what sort of money is involved etc.

    Any info appreciated!

My personal opinion and I know others will disagree, I don't see the point in paying through the nose for a gum shield just because a dentist makes it-Any gum shield moulded right will perfectly fit the teeth

Then the key is quality of material, I'd rather a Shock doctor any day over a dentists gum shield, Not the cheaper shock doctors, the better ones, minimum 20 euro.

For comfort I have always had moulded ones from the Dentist.

I just think the fit is much better and is easier to breathe with.

Cost the last time I had it done was around €100 - €120 which is quite high I found out afterwards

Thanks for that, i dont mind spending but i didnt really want to if there was a mid price alternative.

Do you buy them on line or is there a store in Ireland that sells them?

Hi, not sure where you are based but there's a special offer on with dentist in Portlaoise, Churchview Dental Practice, they are on facebook.
My son has one and its much better than any from a shop, it fits so it stays in his mouth not his pocket or hand that I see his friends doing. It also has his name embedded on it so is less likely to get lost! Its thicker than those shock doctor ones, so assume more impact resistant. (He got club colours too-so wanted to wear it)
It was cheaper than a usual visit to the dentist anyway!

I got one done last summer for gaelic matches, all the lads in the club i asked preffered the dentist route, so i enquired with my dentist and i think i had to pay €75 altogether, terrific value, very comfortable, customisable with colours and your name is typed neatly in the corner of it.

would have to recommend the dentist made type at this price

Any good sports shop, they come with insurance as far as I know-basically a guarantee. The cheap ones don't.

    I swear by mine.

They have shock absorbers in them, dentists is just thick rubber.

I really don't see the point in dentist ones, not when price is rip off.
