I stupidly left the oil cap loose after I had topped it up and have a lovely coating over the engine. Does anyone know of place in Limerick that does this? I want someone who knows what they are doing and wont fry my electronics.

    Thanks!

You can do it yourself if you want to. Cover all elctrical components with tin foil or plastic bags, making sure they are secure enough to withstand the pressure washer.

Go to Halfords and get Meguiar's Engine Degreaser, spray it over a cold engine and use a small brush like one used to wash dishes. Scrub every part of the engine (don't just do one part and leave the rest). When you are done scrubbing, spray on more cleaner to re-foam any parts that might have dried up a bit in the meantime.

Then get your pressure washer/hose at it but work from a distance and don't focus the water on any one part for too long. When all the cleaner is gone, start up the engine and let it idle for 3 minutes then take it for a drive and get it up to full operating temperature. This will help dry all the areas you can't get to.

Then get a cloth (microfibre is handiest) and dry off any remaining water. You can get Meguiar's Engine sealant or Aerospace 303 Protectant to seal and renew all the plastics.

Great guide, thank you. I didnt have time to do it myself today and my NCT is in the morning so went to prestige car cleaners on the Dock road who did it for me. It was just a quick blast to get the oil off so i'll give your guide a go in the coming weeks to get it spick and span.

By the way it's frickin hard to get a replacement oil filler cap in the same day. Tried main dealers and motor factors and ended up having to get a lift out the Bob Sweeneys breakers to get one in the end.

I forgot to mention, Meguiar's engine degreaser is the best option but any degreaser or all purpose cleaner will do the job. The Meguiars stuff just smells great :)

GUNK is another decent engine degreaser. I'd get the tins of liquid over the spray version as they last longer for the price.
