Whacking Day Started Yesterday

So it appears in Florida, they began their own Whacking Day. Due to over infestation of pythons in the Everglades, they're allowing everybody to go out and capture snakes, with prizes going to who catches the biggest and who snags the most snakes. The article isn't too specific if they're to just catch the snakes, or kill them, but it does mention how to kill them, so I assume it wouldn't be frowned upon to do so.

What do you all think of this? On the one hand, the snakes are unnatural to those parts and are demolishing everything in sight, on the other hand, isn't it a bit cruel to go around killing all these snakes?

Also, I wouldn't be too fast rushing into knee deep marshes looking for some big 6 meter snake that'd be perfectly camouflaged.

I'd only do it if I could clobber a snake using another snake. Other than that, it's not my bloody job to keep the snake population under control. I'd want danger pay for that sort of work, talk to the union

No, animal populations need to be kept under control. If the reverse were the case sure we'd make the world a better place by not killing those poor rats either.

Reminds me of the famous/infamous song by Zig and Zag which warned "Never turn your back on a monkey, as a monkey will turn on you".

The recommended method for killing pythons is the same for killing zombies: a gunshot to the brain, or decapitation to reduce the threat.

I'm have a phobia about snakes so wouldn't join in but if it were Zombies, now we're talking.
