    Hi All

I was seeing a girl for about two years ( she is not living in Ireland and never did ) and she got pregnant and she is due in April. We decided that she will come to Ireland and live with me because I cant find a job in her country...

But now I am seriously panicking because I am 28k and I have 1950 euro net monthly and I dont know how will I survive on that every month ?

If I pay rent and bills 1000 euro I have only 950 left , 950 for car insurance , road tax , petrol , food , baby nappies, clothes ,gp ....etc

and my gf will be looking after the baby so she cannot work and she has never worked in ireland so she will not have any income.

I am not familiar with Irish Social System , Can you please advise me if I can get any support from state ?

I don't have any experience here but can't you get child benefit ? Also could ur Gf apply for social welfare if she is European (I stand corrected). I would suggest going to citizens advice. Also, I think 1000 for rent and bills is a bit high. Maybe look at a place with cheaper rent? Best of luck with the baby though man and with your Gf

As you know JimJam it's not easy.

I will get flammed for this.

If you get married you could get a medical card for the baby, pay alot less tax, maybe even pay no tax and other benefits.

As a couple not married, that state will screw you, it's a sad fact.

Friend of mine who I play indoor soccer with is on around the same
    money, 25 - 28k.

He got married two years ago as 420 euro after tax for a girlfriend and child isn't a great life.

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/social_welfare_payments_to_families_and_children/family_income_supplement.html

He barely pays any tax now and gets 50 euro a week family income supplement, bringing his wages to 506 a week net, plus medical card.

Your getting 440 - 450 a week now, with no health insurance, help, zilch.

I am not sure where you stand on child benefit either if not married/ mother not Irish., another income of 130 a month.

    Not fair is it?

I am not telling you to get married, government and there backward laws are :o

You will be entitled to Child Benefit and Family Income Supplement.

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/reference/worksheets/worksheet_how_to_calculate_your_family_income_supplement.html

Your partner will not be able to claim benefit as she will not be actively seeking work, and you will not be able to get her tax credits as you are not married.

It will be tight OP, you should definitely look at getting that rent down.

Look you will be fine if we all taught about the finances of having kids they would be no kids born at all, enjoy it and it will all work out.

You do not mentioned where you live, is a slightly different area cheaper/practical.

I assume (from the details you have given) that your gf is not an Irish Citizen, if you are not, and you have lived here less than 3/4 years, your child might not get Irish Citizenship.

Also, if your gf is non-EU, does she require a Visa to enter Ireland?

If she is working in an other EU state, might be eligible for Maternity benefit in that country, it might be possible to claim that while living here.

    And congratutations..

Thank you , and yes I will take my responsibility on my baby no matter what :) I just want to give a comfortable life to my gf and to my baby that is all i want that is why i panick to be honest !

My gf is from Poland but she never lived in Ireland so she has no visa problem , I also have a Dutch passport and I live in Ireland since 3 years. she has maternity leave benefit but only for 4-5 months and she is not here yet she will born the baby in Poland and then come here when baby is about 3-4 months old.

I live in Ireland since 3 years.

A child born in the island of Ireland on or after 1 January 2005 is entitled to Irish citizenship if they have a British parent or a parent who is entitled to live in Northern Ireland or the Irish State without restriction on their residency. Other foreign national parents of children born in the island of Ireland on or after 1 January 2005 must prove that they have a genuine link to Ireland. This will be evidenced by their having 3 out of the previous 4 years reckonable residence in the island of Ireland immediately before the birth of the child. On proof of a genuine link to Ireland their child will be entitled to Irish citizenship and can apply for a certificate of nationality - see 'How to apply' below.

    That's peanuts.
she will born the baby in Poland and then come here when baby is about 3-4 months old.
It will be very hard to convince her moving with 4 months baby. She'll be looking for a safe place where people speak her language and will comfort her over the first baby. Different story if she already had friends here.
