    No, not that I know of ! But why shoot them? They're not that common.

    There is no "protected list". All birds are protected. The only list is the exceptions to the protection ie. a list of seasons when specific species can be shot.

    Every wild animal and bird is protected. Game has a season, and every year the minister names certain vermin that can be shot throughout the year.

    (a) a wild bird of a species specified in the Third Schedule to this Act shall be a wild bird to which this section applies,


    (b) this section shall not apply to a wild bird which is of a species specified in the regulations,


    (c) in such places or areas as are specified in the regulations and as regards such period or periods as are so specified, subsection (4) of this section shall not have effect, either, as may be so specified, generally or as regards such species of wild bird as are so specified,


    (d) this section shall not have effect in relation to the taking or removing by persons of a specified class of the eggs and nests of wild birds of a species so specified,


    and in case any regulations under this subsection are for the time being in force, this section shall be construed and have effect subject to and in accordance with them; provided that regulations made by the Minister under this subsection and which deal with any matter mentioned in paragraph (a), (b) or (c) of this subsection shall be so made only after consultation with the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries.

    That is the old 1976 act which which has now been updated in 2000 and 2010. Gulls(apart from licenced people on airfields), Bullfinches, Starlings, Sparrows and Jays are now totally protected. The derogations on the NPWS website list the birds that can be legally controlled. This list now consists of certain corvids and pigeons only.

    Sparrow populations have crashed, many different factors but the end result is that there are very few now.
    Bullfinches, I couldn't tell you about.

    They used to be considered a pest in orchards by feeding on the buds of apple trees etc. In later years it was realized that the level of damage was usually very minor which is why they were then takin off the general list about 20 years ago.
