looking for some old time guns as props, back at the turn of the 1916 rising or thereabouts..

The guns have to shoot, obviously not a projectile, but a blank or however its done in theatre.. thing is.. ive never come across them, nor has anyone around me.

We are sure that we want something that shoots as replicating it with lights and sound wouldnt give the desired effect.

Is there somewhere in Ireland that rents out or sells props like these?

Any help at all would be great..

    Thanks in advance.

The Abbey hire out their costumes, it might be worth asking if they hire out props too?

Pretty certain all theatre guns must be decomissioned (ie. all mechanism removed) All plays I've ever seen have never had a working model. Using lights and sound effects instead. Your audience is watching theatre a certain amount of leeway is always given when it comes to practical effects such as these.

If you have the money then there is an amazing facility up in north County Dublin called historic interiors, it is the largest props supplier in Ireland if not Europe as far as I know. An absolute gem. While your budget may only stretch to two or three pieces it really helps you to understand what you should be aiming to make and build yourself - if that makes any sense
