    thats what I thought.. (i.e when the new timetables come into operation) but I had a look at journeys a few weeks down the line and the duration remains the same.

    funny, if you go to the Irish rail website there is a link on the front page to news on the matter and on the timetable page a listing for before 20th and post 20th January.

    I don't think that the Sligo line was one of the ones mentioned in terms of improved times, but maybe I am wrong.

    You are correct. It's services out of Heuston which are benefiting from the new speed improvements. The Sligo line is running about as fast as it can for now as it is subject to some tight curves at places and many level crossings. Only additional crossing points or double track sections will make any difference and even so you are looking at about 10 minutes tops.
