Ah_Yeah has just raised the idea of possibly organising a meet up for the forum, which would obviously have some sort of horsey outin! :).

Rather than get too detailed just yet, I said I'd start this thread here, with a poll asking if people would be interested in attending such an event, and then give their ideas and/or suggestions for the meet up.

Would you be interested in attending an Equestrian forum meet up? 37 votes

    Yes, definitely

I would but it would depend on what side of the country it is on in.

Unlikely I could go as I dont live in Ireland, but recommend doing something like this.

I think Ah Yeah is South Dub/Wicklow, I am too, but I am sure others near you will be on here too. There can always be a West meet up too or other regions too :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Ah_Yeah

We could always meet somewhere in the middle too! Doesnt have to be in South Dub/Wicklow :) this is more to get a feel for who would be interested, then we could try to organise a location after!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,281 ✭✭✭Valentina

I'd love to do this. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭marley123

Somewhere with decent hacking that can organise a BBQ after:)

Do you mean for your horse or yourself?
I think the majority of people won't be bringing their horse, I know I won't anyway! :)

Sure I'll check funds closer to the time :)

super idea! id say leave the horses out of it for this one as not everyone has their own/transport etc, apparently there's a place in athlone that does xc for groups that is quite good and its also somewhat in the middle??

100% agree! And good idea on meeting somewhere in the middle :)

Is this the place you're talking about silverfox?

Good idea to use riding centre horses of whatever place we choose. When more people respond can see where will suit most people maybe do a new poll on location when more people have said if they are interested or not :)

On this note, anyone in the Wicklow/South Dublin area interested in renting the arena in Boswell for a bit of schooling? I was planning on doing it soon anyway but thought it might be a nice way to get a few of the boardies together!

    Definitely up for that!

    Ooh this is exciting.

I'm South Kildare/ Carlow area. I like the idea of doing a training/schooling session somewhere. Maybe we could pool resources and get someone to do a master class kind of thing?

Some X country schooling as it would suit different levels of rider/horse.

Maybe a meet up in person and then something with the geegees?

Oh, or a beach ride -towards the summer though!

Love the master class idea! I've always wanted to do a xc class with Lucinda Green :o

Sounds cool would love a cross country lesson as years since I have done it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Ah_Yeah

How about we agree on a preliminary meet up first, and then maybe work towards a masterclass or something? That way we'll all know each other and can agree together :)

How is March/April looking for a meet up for everyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭ilovemarmite

Last week in March, first week in April would be good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭Heydeldel

Yep, should be ok, unless I win the lotto and find myself on a beautiful beach somewhere...

er.... see you in April/ March.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Ah_Yeah

If you do, you can take us all with you.. So it's still March/April :p

March/April should be okay for me too.

So are we meeting up first without horses and then organising a horsey one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Ah_Yeah

I think it might be a good idea to meet up first without horses, or else even book in a rideout together somewhere? Something that doesn't require a huge level of commitment, e.g. bringing our own horses ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭Heydeldel

Yeah an initial meet up without the nags would be better - what about at a horsey event? As spectators like. Is there anything interesting on around then? Not sure I'll still have my loan horse much longer but would like to meet up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Ah_Yeah

There's SJAI at Boswell for the next couple of months? Final is April 14th

Tattersalls would be a good place to meet up if anything on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Ah_Yeah

Looks like there's nothing on until June :(

I'd end up coming home with about 5 horses :p

    hey all,

new to this Ah yeah told me about the forum, would look to come along to a meet up, as only getting back in the saddle and new to the Dublin ridding scene :),

i would love to go out over a xc course when the weather is a bit better, with a plan of entering a hunter trial. will be looking for a partner in crime for pairs if anyone was interested closer to the time. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,339 ✭✭✭convert

Welcome to the madhouse, Holly! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭ilovemarmite

I have exams early May so meet up before mid April would be good as will be cramming last two weeks in April :)

We could do a ride out somewhere, would be good if people all different levels and not everyone has a horse, could then go for a pub lunch after to chat.

Will be cool to meet some new horsey people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 331 ✭✭silverfox88

Sounds like a good plan marmite, april would suit me as well as im just finished exams! anyone have any concrete idea where would suit as a meeting point? have we got an idea of where most people are coming from? if we could narrow down our location now that we have our timing we should be able to get planning!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Ah_Yeah

Good idea silverfox! I think we should look to plan something soon so we can ensure we mark it in our diaries :)

I'm South Dublin, but am willing to travel (within reason!) - and have my own transport.

    What about Bel Air?

This looks great! Are we bringing our own or using theirs? Took the mare out showjumping on Sunday. Only one pole down - the second of a double. Was happy with how she went for our first time out! Dying to do some xcountry!

I'll probably use one of theirs as I've no transport for my mare but I'll decide for definite closer to the time.

Congrats on your showjumping result :)

I suppose its up to each individual but I think it might be easier for the first meet up if we use their horses. Plus Ive no horse :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭Heydeldel

Ok great! That's even better I think. Excited!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Ah_Yeah

I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see what dates they have in April, and what the rates are. I'll post them here and we might set a new poll then (with the help of convert? :D) on what date everyone wants?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭ilovemarmite

Bel Air sounds good to me, I'll use one of their horses (unless anyone wants to buy one for me before then :) )

What is their cross country course like? I haven't done any for ages so wouldn't be able for big difficult jumps :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭ilovemarmite

We can also retire to their hotel bar after :):)
