Black tea after a meal

I've got a lot of things under control when it comes to exercise and diet, but my one big failing is crisps. I've got into a habit of having a bag (and often 2) after my main meal even as I'm still digesting my dinner. If I can cut these out, I'll be happier, but will power alone ain't cutting it. I've read that drinking a cup of black tea after my meal will somehow keep these cravings under control. Something to do with spikes in blood sugar? I can't find anything solid online about it really, mostly found sites suggesting it's a BAD idea (something to do with losing the iron the meal provides???) so I'd be interested in hearing the consensus.

I'm not a big fan of tea, cut out caffeine years ago and don't miss it, but a cup of black tea has got to be healthier than 2 bags of crisps after every meal. If this is the case, is it only black tea? Would green tea work too?

Your focus would be better spent on acquiring self discipline instead of a using a substitute.

Don't buy the crisps in the first place. I never understand why people bring temptation into their kitchens. To be honest 1 bag of crisps isn't too bad but in general if you want to cut something out just don't buy it.

Green Tea apparently does have effects on satiety. Not sure about regular black tea, but I would imagine the liquid itself plays a part in signalling to your stomach that your full. That whole thing about iron anyway seems to be over thinking it imo.

Give it a try anyway, you have nothing to lose! :)

Maybe chew a stick of gum straight after your meal or brush your teeth? Crisps after that would taste disgusting.

try drinking a glass of water before and after meal. Can give you that full feeling. I use to have a packet of crisp every evening, but since xmas I've only had about two despite them being in the house. Breaking the habit for a few days has left me less inclined to reach for them. Plus the one night I had them late, I woke up the next morning with a queesy stomach which I'm glad to avoid now.

They say Green tea is a great antoxidant and actually helps weight loss. So that's the tea option I would go for. Ordinary Lyons brand will do, you don't need to go to a health food store.

Maybe don't come to a fitness forum and expect a silver bullet

I'd agree with the trick of just not buying the crisps.

They got one in fairness... "don't buy crisps".

That's not what people want to hear tho.

There is good evidence that substituting one habit for another is a good way of breaking an undesirable habit.
If substituting your crisps for black tea works for you OP, then do it.

If you're worried about caffeine, you can get decaffinated black tea. It's widely available.
If you're worried about your iron levels (generally more of a problem in women then in men), then do some reading around tannins and iron absorption.

Green tea is worth a shot too if you prefer the taste.

I have a glass of milk after a meal. Kills off the hungry feeling for me.

    Yep.
People would rather argue over the effacy of acai berries rather than put down the slice of pizza.

You dont need to cut out crisps from your diet, as long as they fit your macros for the day.

Find out what your total daily expenditure is on this site

    http://iifym.com

Then find out what your LBM is. Multiply your leanbody mass in lbs by 1.5 to get the amount of protein in grams you should eat per day.

Multiply your total bodyweight by 0.45 to get your fat macros for the day.

Whatever is left you can fil with whatever **** you want as long as your staying within the calories for your desired goal!

Eating frequently or how big your meals are have no effect on body composition. Eating within your means does!

You obviously haven't a clue about nutrition or dieting.

go on that site mate, you wont go wrong.

Zyzz, Josef Rakich, Jeff Seid and nearly all fitness models use the IIFYM diet.

IIFYM is a very very simplistic view of nutrition but can be used sparingly.

A packet of crisps wont make or break his diet.

Should "Health & Fitness" have a Misc section for jokes like this and for the stuff above? OP came in looking for help and has stuck around thanking posts that have helped him. Not everyone is an expert on this stuff (most that think they are, aren't) and everyone needs help and advice.

I don't see why some people stay around this forum and tell people they are wrong with a smug sense of superiority without even detailing why the person is wrong.

IIFYM isn't the best diet you can be on but it can work for some people. The truth is like john_cappa said: "A packet of crisps wont make or break his diet.". In my opinion it is worth cutting out the crisps because I have found eating fully/mostly healthy makes dieting a lot easier. Find foods that will make you more full for less calories.

iifym is a simplistic yet effective approach to dieting.

calories in vs calories out. whoever thinks it doesnt work is severely misunderstood and has fallen victim to yet another view of broscience. nothing worse then BROSCIENCE!!
