BEST SECOND HAND 12G SEMI AUTO TO BUY??
    AS THE TITLE SAYS..........

    thanks lads

    Well the answer is easy.

Decide for yourself what is the best 12g semi-auto out there you can get.

    Then go find one secondhand.

the reason i ask is that im an u/o person. havent a clue about semi autos...

No such thing as "the best one".

Ask 100 lads, and get 100 different answers. For example i think you won't get a better gun than Beretta. A mate of mine won't use anything else other than Browning. He thinks everything else is crap.

A better question to ask would be what semi auto shotgun would lads most like to own if money, etc. was not an issue.

I'll get the ball rolling. If money was not an issue, and all this restricted/non restricted nonsense was not around. I would go for the Beretta UGB25 Xcel Gold Sporting.

    UGB-Gold-trap.jpg

All the functionality of a semi auto, with the break open feature of an over/under. Plus it's a Beretta so fit, feel, and performance is guaranteed.

However with prices being in the €3,500+ mark for this model it's a no-go for the moment. However i am trying to nail down a Beretta Al391 Gold Sporting.

    Beretta-AL391-Teknys-Stonecoat-Gold-Sport-A56837.jpg

I owned the game version (green teardrop) some years ago, but moved back to an O/U for my clay days. With them in the past i'm trying to get back into a semi auto, and this is the one for me.

I have owned numerous Beretta over the years in both O/U, and semi auto. No matter the model i have always found fit, feel performance, reliability to be above excellent. From a company with nearly 500 years history what else would you expect.

Bearing in mind 1500 to spend , the maxus comes with a few more tricks then the beretta , full set of chokes plus an extended choke for geese duck turkey , it takes 3 1/2 inch shells , it has speed loading features that beretta don't have , plus a cut off switch allowing you to change to a different cartridge if needed . And all this in the basic model .

The high ridge line allowed for easy aim , stock is all adjustable . It just has a lot for the money .

And I can't c the beretta cycling any faster then it

+1 to that, because I have one. Only problem with mine is it don't like Olympic trap 28g 7.5s old type one no problem with the newer one.I shoot the odd competition so it doesn't bother me that much. I use it mainly for decoying grey crows magpies and pigeons. Got it with the kick off and would not part with it for love nor money. Like all guns try before you buy (if possible)
A mate of mine got a second hand a400 unico last week for 1500. Gun is brand new the previous owner didn't like it. Any one who used mine did find it short in the stock but I think they were just jealous LOL.
I see a extrema in the for sale section for 1100 I think, that to me would a savage gun to buy, its a steel at that.
I got some very good advice from a member here on the a400 so he may be along to give his input.
Happy hunting if there's anything I can do to help let me know.

when i got my a400 it came wit a full set of chokes and it holds 3 and half inch loads and it does cycle faster. well its the fastest one in the world. my opinion its alot better gun and better looking ;) wasnt that long ago your saying the beretta semi are the only repeater to buy :D

When I ask about new beretta I was told the chokes were extra , I didn at one stage bad mouth a beretta ,

Any repeater I'd designed to cycle faster than you can pull the trigger so I can see it being a problem .

And as for looks I really don't think any repeater is a nice looking gun , hence the reason for buying a synthetic .

Benelli do a nice hunting semi auto, pal of mine has one about 10 years and is very satisfied with it. I had a Browning auto 5 many years ago, it was a good gun but newer guns are more refined. The new Browning semi auto's can give problems, Beretta's have a good rep but if I were buying an auto I'd buy a nice Benelli.

bernadelli mega cause i have one ! it has capacity to take 6 shots ,its light, balanced ,and i have missed very little with it since i got it . first shot i fired i dropped a mallard at 40 yards . i have shot 100 bird clay shoots with it and never had a miss fire .shot a 78/100 with it not long ago . plus there is no minding in it really , stock is covered in ****e and blood from dispatching the odd bird on it and i wouldnt change it for the world hence why im selling my 686 in the for sale section .

All Beretta semi autos I've used came with chokes, took 3 1/2" cartridges, had cut off switches and adjustable stocks.

    Speed loading is handy though.

After doing a bit of digging and a phone call to ardee sports ,

Bearing in mind the 1500 price range

Beretta have stop making 391 s
The A300 has replaced them retailing at 1200-1300 euro
Does not take 3 1/2 inch shells and comes with one choke .

A400 comes with all the bells and whistles at a even price of around 1800 euro .

So as to refer to my first post there is no beretta in the po's price range that has everything the browning has .

That being said if your laying cash these prices will vary from gun dealer to GUNDEALER !

My main concern with beretta is customer service and the fact that some of there guns are made in turkey .

I have alway been a fan of beretta , but nothing is made to last anymore and I'm afraid beretta has gone down that road too .

Not solely directed at you, but using this to ask my new question.

The original purpose of this thread was the OP wanted to know if money, and other issues were not a problem which semi auto would you have. When i "scared" him with the price of the UGB (and that is not the dearest semi auto available) the question changed to "For €1,500 and under".

So my post above looks somewhat out of place, and i think the title is once again misleading given that i have changed it already.

The thread, according to the OP, seems more recommendation of a good semi auto than which would be a dream buy.

    Am i right?

I saw one of these in Ballymahon, he was looking for around 1800 for it , got it off another dealer that had a clear out, I think.

I'd totally agree if ya can find a clean second hand one its a great buy .

Cass ur correct , I didn comment till he put a cap on money , and you won't get a new a400 for under 1500.

Which still puts the browning maxus at 1300€ with all the extras the gun to buy .

That being said you would probally get a new 391 knocking around a gun shop somewhere all the time

As said above my comment was not directed at you specifically. Just used your comment as a reason to explain why i mentioned such an expensive shotgun. Just explaining in case ya think i'm "nit picking". :D
Which still puts the browning maxus at 1300€ with all the extras the gun to buy
Seems to tick all the boxes. Plus like most guns mentioned here what suits me may not be to the OP's liking so while i'm not a fan of Browning it may suit the OP.
That being said you would probably get a new 391 knocking around a gun shop somewhere all the time
I'm trying. Have my heart set on a new 391. Would "settle" for a second hand one, but prefer a new one. Looking for a new one, and someone willing to trade.

Beretta, I had a teknys, now have an Xtrema. Both amazing shotguns. Brother has a urika. I have the Xtrema for sale cos I can't get a left-handed trigger and can't get used to the safety for right handers. I won't be replacing it with anything except a beretta
