    Hi,

I'm planning to relocate to Ireland. Could someone advise me on where to find a list of ETFs that a private investor can trade in Ireland without penalty taxes? Are Irish investors free to trade anything listed on the London Stock Exchange?

    Thank you,
    hennes

You can trade any ETF on any market worldwide that any broker who will accept you as a customer can give you access too.

Ok, but the question is whether I have to pay penalty taxes on the returns of some ETFs because they're not registered for trading in Ireland or they're not transparent to the Irish tax authorities. For instance I can't buy most of the Vanguard ETFs on German stock exchanges. I could buy them via NYSE but I would pay about 30% penalty taxes on their earnings because they're not registered for trading in Germany. I hope I'm being clear enough.

I don't think the concept of penalty taxes exists here. Some other juristictions will apply a withholding tax on dividends but I don't think thats what you refer to.
