My daughter wants to travel to Oz for 1 month from mid July to mid August. Herself and a friend want to visit a close friend in Melbourne and then do some travel within Oz for 2-3 weeks.

I'd appreciate any advice on the bets way get there - Abbey Travel quoted her 2k this morning which sounded crazy to me. For example would they be better looking for flights from the UK where they might have more options?

And then I would be grateful if anyone could suggest the best places to go to eg. Cairns seems popular, what about Sydney, Brisbane?

Any suggestions / advice would be very much appreciated.

    Roy

If that was 2k for both of them together then that would be about right and you won't get much cheaper weather you fly from Ireland or UK. If it was for one then its a joke.

Your best just booking flights directly with the airline. Emirates and Etihad would be best options. I booked return flights to OZ for 2 recently around the same time as you daughter for just over 2,000.

2k seems to be a lot if it was flights only from Dublin to Melbourne. Your best bet is to shop around on the internet. Try the different airlines. Qantas, Emirates, Etihad to name a few. A random search for me came up with 1310 euro Dublin to Melbourne return.Leaving Dublin on 16th July and coming back on 15th August with Emirates.
