Another thing to cause problems and cost you €000s when the fitters just replace all of the parts.

Wouldn't like to be stuck behind that for too long. Looks very slow.

There is not a chance id press the button on my phone and just walk off- id have to either watch it until it parked or go back a minute later to see that it parked properly and hadnt crashed - making the whole process pointless

Judging by the dickheads that use Tescos carpark, it should be made compulsary.

It didn't straighten up the wheel when it stopped, load of rubbish.

For the record, I am totally against self-driving cars.

Apparently the new s class can park itself AND drive off if you want.

I wonder what the legalities would be if it ran over somebody.

Personally I think it's class, imagine if it was raining, no more running to the car the car could come to you!

I'd love it if when you put it into park mode a inflatable pilot would inflate behind the wheel in a captains uniform with a big grin on its face .

It would be handy for the computer science students, a bit of programming and Audis would come and pick you up.

On second thoughts I think it's a great idea, imagine coming out of the pub demented from drink.
Whoo, a press of the button and you're on your on your way home.

They conveniently had a space close to the entrance, if it had to get one a few floors up the driver would be waiting all day for it to get back. "Where's that ****ing car got to"

If it shares a car park with human drivers it will potentially get stuck in a situation where a car is parked with hazards on and traffic builds up behind. If it does get stuck some angry motorists might do some harm. Plus you will have to find the car and rescue it.

The reality is that there will be a line of Audi Q7s circling around the Brown Thomas car park in Clarendon Street until a space becomes available and if anyone reverses into your car it will probably have a freak attack and need you to come get it while the person that hit it will blame the robot driver and abscond.

Nice idea but it needs to be a lot more convincing than that lame video!

    +1
a couple of them at the same time would lead to deadlock unless they talk to each other...which I doubt.
Throw in a few human drivers and its game over.

I don't like the idea of there being an electric motor on the steering wheel that could randomly start turning if something shorted out... imagine that going full lock all of its own accord going 120km/h on a motorway?

a lot of cars already have this

It's no coincidence that they have a woman in the advert, you'd be surprised at the amount of women who are scared of multi story car parks from a personal security point of view, and if a system is there in the car where they know that they can drop a car off at street level and pick it up again then I think it will sell quite well.

Biggest problem with that is people ordering their car back about 15 minutes before they actually get to the car park "because it's MY car and I want it ready when I get there". Cue a load of cars queued up behing that one blocking the exit up whilst waiting for the driver to come and pick it up. They may also decide to go for coffee/get something out of the shop etc in the meantime.

I think it would work well in privately owned car parks but until it goes a lot faster it's not much use in public ones. Along with this most existing car parks will have to be heavily modified to have holding bays to drop off/pick up cars.

Maybe they can give it a movie style valet parking mode where it gets powerslid out of the parking garage. The "Like a boss" mode

getting ever closer to the ideal of a car that can drive you home from the pisser.

you could go knacker drinking in your car - get it to take you to beauty spots?

I take it your car doesn't have power steering then?

Would bring a whole new level of 'sh1t .... wheres my phone'

Or frantically trying to find a charger because your car went off and parked itself someplace.

Nice idea with the right amount of infrastructure upgrades (GPS & pre-loaded maps, smart sensors in car,on the street,in the walls, smart talking between cars) yes,it will work !

It's impressive, but not as much as you'd think. The cars positional data in this solution is being supplied by sensors fitted in the garage, so you couldn't have your car do this in just any location.

    You are right,somehow ! :)

There are already in 2012 protocols and technologies that can make that to be fully workable. Cost wise, not sure.

Outside, look at Google self driven cars or at DARP competition !
Inside, all works on the "infrastructure upgrade" AND AI built-in the car !

If is a WANT ,then is a CAN too ...

    PS
why idevice and not another platform !??
    Is AUDI,european car !
