Astra air filter

The emissions light has lit on my Astra (not blinking), did the pedal test and it gave code 0170 which indicates either Rich Exhaust or Lean Exhaust. Consensus online seems to be to replace the air flow meter.

Anyone have any further info or possible other causes, and anyone know somewhere relatively cheap to get an airfilter - micks garage want 262.00 for it.

(edit) to put in correct part :/ - perhaps if a mod sees this they could edit thread title.

    €262 for an airfilter???

You have something wrong somewhere, I suspect your thinking of an air flow meter or something rather then an air filter.

Sorry you're right, meant air flow meter.

Before forking out a lot of money,1st thing I would do is check for vacuum leaks.
Not sure what exhaust lean means or is it fuel lean?
May be a leak and may not be a leak but make sure or you could be spending a lot of money for nothing.
Also some problems can throw up a lot of different codes telling you this and That.
    Is the car running ok?
Is it idling high or erratically?

C&P'd from another forum: P0170 fault location: Fuel trim(ft) bank 1 - malfunction
Probable cause: Intake leak, AIR system (secondary air injection), fuel pressure/pump, injector(s), EVAP canister purge valve, HO2S (heated oxygen sensor)

Car is running fine and not idling high or erratically so far. The more I look the more I see a number of different possibilities, might get the garage to check it instead rather than forking out for an air flow meter and that not being the cause at all.

Vacuum leaks will throw up fuel trim codes.
Also egr valve can possibly cause similar things mentioned in your last post.
    Could also be your MAF.
Best thing to do is get it checked out.
I had a similar problem with my A4.
After 2 mechanics couldn't find the problem, I went at it myself and found a faulty valve inside a pipe under the manifold.
A new one cost less than a fiver.

As has been said, it would be foolish to start buying parts without having the issue diagnosed properly. You should be looking at around the €50 mark for proper diagnosis.

Well, the light has now gone off for no apparent reason, although I did scowl quite heavily at the air flow meter at one stage, maybe that did the trick :)
