Can't hack us young lads anymore can ya :P! (having said that the amount of people who asked me why I wasn't running in the masters last weekend in Shanganagh, there was close on slaps thrown!)

It'll be dry & a wee bit warmer tomorrow evening. This is a grand 2 mile race to start the 2013 series. Registration is in the Shoreline Sports Park building yards from the Greystones track at 7.00 with the race at 7.30.

Great start to the Sli Cualann series for 2013, a bit breezy & this made the final 500m climb all the trickier. Plenty of new faces too. Well done to all who helped and ran tonight.

It was tough indeed. First race of 2013, and it was a bit of a blast. Wish I'd done a bit of research on the route beforehand, as I picked up the pace too early when I thought I saw the finish line (which just turned out to be two women wearing high-viz vests, out walking their dogs :o). I crumbled a bit after that and lost a spot. Still, I've never run a 2 mile race before, so it's a PB!

Thanks to the volunteers who braved the cold conditions.

The majority of the remaining fixtures were fixed last night and I'll post the list later in the week, once the RD's have come back and confirmed.
We also decided to remove the requirement to steward to count in the league prizes as it was difficult to administer, post #1 has been amended.
However Round 2 is approaching fast.

    Round 2
    Thurs Feb 21st
    7:30pm
    Rathdrum
    5k
    Road

This is a 3.5 lap race, with a bit of variety on each lap.
Registration takes place in St. Colmans Hospital [52.933715,-6.239827] from 7pm.
    €5 for AAI affiliated members
€7 for non AAI affiliated members
    Prizes
    Open categories
Men and Women: 1st 3 Junior, Senior (under 40 on race day), O40, O50 and O60.
    Fit 4 Life Categories:
Open to New and Recreational runners.
    Self-selected by participant.
    Prize Structure: 1st 3 Women, 1st 3 Men plus 3 spot prizes.

Nice conditions for this tonight, cool and calm.
Registration from 6:45 at St. Colman's hospital - If coming from the North, take a right in the middle of the town, drive straight up until you reach a fork in the road and the hospital is on your right, start is a few 100 mts from registration.

BTW - Round 4 has been brought forward to Apr 18th to avoid being too close to Ashford AC's 5k on Sunday Apr 28th, more details on both soon.

Another great race last night, thanks to all who helped & ran, a big thanks to Parnell AC for stewarding, the fantastic mountain of food afterwards & the heat in the hall was a huge bonus too.

Hope to make it out for this one, missed the last 2 being caught late in work, although I'll be lucky to go under 6 minutes :o

Nice little 4 lap gallop tonight. Thanks guys for your organising and stewarding - without fault as usual, and great value.
Numbers seemed a bit light though.

The only downside for me is that I can't help feeling that I left a few seconds out there as I settled into lap three a bit too comfortably instead of making myself hurt a bit more. A good 20 seconds ahead of last time I ran this one though, with a feeling of more to give, so can't complain too much.

+1. Another great outing. The fit4life league has allowed me to try distances/events I'd never have otherwise attempted. Many thanks guys. Can't have been easy marshalling all of those troops in that cold, with idiots like me, unceremoniously walking across the track!

The 2 Shanganagh races typically attract the biggest numbers and the 1st of those is up next month, plus you have another chance to tick off a big 10 race - 3k!

    7:30pm (registration from 7pm)
    Shanganagh Pk, Shankill

Course TBD (watch this space), there's been a few changes to the layout of the park since last year, but will be on the tarmac path.

    Registration takes place from 7pm.
    €5 for AAI affiliated members
€7 for non AAI affiliated members

    Prizes
    Open categories
Men and Women: 1st 3 Junior, Senior (under 40 on race day), O40, O50 and O60.
    Fit 4 Life Categories:
Open to New and Recreational runners.
    Self-selected by participant.
    Prize Structure: 1st 3 Women, 1st 3 Men plus 3 spot prizes.

Last year's results good spread from 9mins to 25mins.

This is it, except it doesn't take the sharp left into the car park at the end, but continues on to finish at the end of the cycle lane.

I'm going to try this out as its pretty close to me.
    My first race....

I hope to pace around 25 mins but I'm unsure of the procedure... Do you just do your best to stay near the 25min pacer from the start? And will he/she be easily recognisable?
Sorry for the silly questions but I've zero experience. Thanks.

Easily identified at the start, more than likely wearing a bright T Shirt with the pacing time on the back.

A few people asking for directions from Dublin direction.
    * Heading south on the N11/M11, exit at junction 16, sign posted Rathnew.
    * First exit on roundabout and head for Rathnew.
    * Again first exit heading for Wicklow Town.
    * Approx 1k from Rathnew turn left at traffic lights, sign posted Port Relief.
    * Follow this road for approx 2k and there is a car park on your left opposite Wicklow Martial Arts, this is about a 200mt walk to registration opposite the Leitrim lounge.
    * There is also limited parking at the Leitrim lounge.

Thanks to all who helped make it a fun evening in windy Wicklow. The introduction of pacers is a really positive move & I was a big beneficiary tonight. Great spread of afters too from Inbhear Dee. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,165 ✭✭✭Savage Tyrant

Thanks very much to all involved in making tonight's run.
It was my first actual road race... I was very nervous and nearly talked myself out of running it on a number of occasions throughout the day. But I did it, and I'm delighted I did.
My best self timed effort over 5k so far had been about 28/29 minutes. I unofficialy timed myself tonight at 26.09

Thanks again to all who organised and officiated... Hopefully I'll be much less nervous next time.

Round 7 moves to Djouce on Weds 31st July at 7:30pm.
This is a predictor run, guess your time and run without a watch.

It will also effectively be a free race.
We are however accepting donations on the evening to go towards the purchase of a defibrillator.

We had an unfortunate incident at the end of our last race where a very fit athlete collapsed, luckily the race finished at the GAA club in Roundwood and we had access to a defibrillator and the individual is now recovering well.

Hope to see a few of you there.

    Dom
