    1. What is your budget?
€400-€500 (for the items I now need)

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer?
Some video editing and lots of video transcoding
Windows Media Center, hopefully will be adding two TV cards
Media server using Media Center, 2 X-Box 360s being used as 'extenders'
General use Excel, Word, Skype, browsing and perhaps some software development since I just acquired a Rasberry Pi
Generally run a lot of applications concurrently!!

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows?
No Have a copy of WIndows 7 Home Premium - 64bit

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer?
Have keyboard, Mouse and Camera, do not intend to break-up current PC.
Have some hard drives and may get more seperately.

    5. Do you need a monitor?
No have a Samsung 24" LED display

5a. If yes, what size do you need.
    N/A

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? [1920x1080/1440x900/etc.]
    Current monitor can do 1920 x 1080

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard/Mouse/Wireless Card/Card Reader/Speakers/etc.]
    No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [Yes/No]
Yes I would like to experiment at some time in the future.
But for now will stick with the stock cooler.

    8. How can you pay?
    Any method

    9. When are you purchasing?
Hopefully over the next 7 days

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? [South Dublin City/Cork City/Kerry/etc.]
Rush, North Co. Dublin. Should be Ok, this is my first build from scratch but have been playing and working with PCs for longer that I care to think about!!

    Some items already to hand:
    Intel Core i5 Processor - i5 - 2500K
    Crucial M4 SSD - 128GB SATA 6Gb/s

I have been looking at this for a while and this is my current thinking:

    Item|Price
FRACTAL DESIGN Gehäuse Core 3000 black|€64.39
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 550W|€58.99
    ASRock Z77 Extreme6, Sockel 1155, ATX|€150.14
    2 x 8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€67.00
    LG GH24NS Retail schwarz|€21.75
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€381.26
The reason I have picked the ASRock Motherboard is that I would like various video options, also need eSATA and IEEE 1394.

One other thing I almost forgot, I have a projector near the PC and may need to drive that at some point.
Would that have any effect on the hardware specified above?

I am open to suggestions on all of the above.

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.

    Thanks

Not the best processor in town. Other than that I can't see any major problems, but someone will probably find something cheaper and better :P

I'm living in Lusk & have built lots of rigs over the years so if you need a hand give me a PM.

I assume that you mean 2500k is great processor that with an overclock can outperform ivy bridge .. For video editing i would have been inclined to go i7 as hyper threading would help but the i5 won't be too far behind..

The case is one thing i'd personally change but that's a preference thing I don't like the look of it..

Since you have z77 and 2500k if you are planning on overclocking grab an Aftermarket cooler.. You probably won't need to straight away but at a later stage.. It'll make it quieter if nothing

Apart from that seems a solid build

U-fig, just wondering. I had never heard of an Inter i5 1500k so I decided to search for it, the only result I got was a mobile based processor at 1.3ghz. You ever hear of this before?

As U-fig assumed, is this actually a 2500K?

Sorry I checked the post a few times but still left in a typo!!

    It is indeed an i5 - 2500K.

Search for reviews on 1155 coolers. I'm sure you will find one you like on hardwareversand that also gets good reviews.

    Get a 16gb kit (2x8gb)
2 dimms can make overclocking a little easier.

The Extreme6 is complete overkill for that build. Save yourself a very large chunk of money and go with the Pro3.

The Pro3 has no DVI, no eSATA and no 1394.

The coolermaster hyper 212 evo is a better cooler for around the same money.

    http://lb.hardwareversand.de/Intel+AMD/59387/Cooler+Master+Hyper+212+EVO++-+Intel+AMD.article

It performs better and won't block your ram slots like that artic 1 can.

That minimalist case while being nice looking is not very functional especially if overclocking.

For the price the functionality of this case cannot be beaten. I highly recommend it.

If you don't like the look of it of course that's a problem.

It does have eSATA connections which means you could get the cheaper ASrock pro4 board which has dvi and can be connected to the case eSATA's.

It also has the very handy hard drive hot swap bay. You can just pop any 2.5 or 3.5 inch HDD in the top and transfer stuff.

-edit- My bad. I didn't realise you already have the proc.

Checked some of the reviews and it looks very good so changing to it.

It is that minimalist look that I liked.
Can you explain what you mean about "not very functional" please.

The MOBO I selected also has 1394 which I need so I think I will stick with that.

The lack of functionality bit isn't really correct. The R4 is a great case. It's not going to perform as well as something with a 230mm fan in the side dumping air on your GPU, but then the R4 isn't going to sound like a wind tunnel. Depends what you prefer.

Thanks for that reply, currently I am not into gaming and overclocking will just be an exercise for me - something else to play with!!

In this case I will stick with the R4 and can add more fans if I need to later.

    Thanks for the feedback

I'm using the r3 at the minute and the r4 is basically an improved version it's very functional lots of cooling options and the sound dampening keeps thins quiet.. It's one of my favourite cases as you can guess I like the minimal look also
