I am toying with the idea of a scope mounted light on my 22 for lamping rabbits, I was looking at this http://www.deben.com/gun-lights/tracer-ledray-tactical-500.html and am wondering if anyone has one and if they could give their opinions on it.
I probably won't be shooting further than 100 yards but I suspect the light will need to have a much longer range to have the target clear at 100. BTW the reticle is not illuminated.

Use a night master 800 myself ,hard to beat but very expensive.

Have looked at the debens at night and they are ok,should be find for a .22 but nowhere near the night master,

These are supposed to be great as well and cheap, have a look at videos of them on youtube

Follow the link below to see the light I use €28 shipped and about €15 or €20 total for batteries charger and scope mounts. It is a cheap china job but I can see eyes at 200 plus yards and make out a fox at 150 yards. I bought 2 one for scanning hand held and one mounted on the .22 I also got 6 batteries 2 for each lamp and 2 spare in the pocket.

This is a link to a review that clive did on them a while back.

Cheers GP for the reference link.

Just to add I'm not getting out much with the torch BUT it's the real deal and will be very good for your 22lr rabbit shooting.
I added a 3" length of 2" white waste pipe over the end just to stop the very little flood of stray light from it.

I also got these picatinny mounts below from Dealextreme, about $7 each inc P&P, as it was more easy to mount the torch to the scope using a picatinny mount on the torch. they come in 1" & 30mm tube size.

I also made up a plate that my video camera goes on to and attaches to the mount shown below. I have to get a few videos of my stalking when I get any ;)

PUT this mount on your scope and a picatinny mount on your torch.

I purchased a tracer tri-star pro lately. You will have no problem at 100 yds with it.Don't have any filters to try on it.Even 120 yds you should be ok.

Hi Gearoid what range would you get full recognition on an animal with the night master

On the box it says 800m and thats bull.

0 - 200 metres Crystal clear view ,the same as lamping with my lightforce 240 hid

200 - 300 m Perfectly fine for rabbits but towards the 300m i would imagine distinguishing a fox from a dog might be difficult

300 - 500m Can still see the eye reflection from fox / sheep

Thanks Gearoid, i was looking at the one with the red led, they are pricey but if they do the job then i wouldnt care, are the worth the money?
I use the laser designator on the scope ,they are a great job but when its raining heavy the beam gets distorted and recognition is not that great, i never have problems with it in the cold or anything like that ,its just heavy rain gives a bit of grief.

Yeah had an nd50 and wasnt a fan. They are just too slow compared to a good torch imo.I got the white and the amber led.Still havent tried the amber out shooting but they are easy enough to swap. They say the red takes away from the light a little but i would still imagine 200 yards all day long would be possible.

Imo they are well worth the money and do exactly as they are supposed to do 100% of the time.

Great info there on the NM800 gearoidol.

Hows the battery life?? I'd imagine you'd get a few trips out before a recharge??

200 yards to be compared to a blitz 240 is serious power!!

He was comparing distance to clarity wise of the NM800.. obviously the blitz holds its been consistency alot further :)

Yeah to clearup the hid blitz is good to 1000 - 1500 metres.
What i mean is the clarity at 200 using the nm on my zeiss victory is very similar to the blitz. The Blitz would have way more field of view though ,that would be using the nm on its tightest setting which still fills the scope but thats about it.
The nm on its tightest setting would be useless for scanning though as the beam is very tight.

The battery is great.I would get loads of trips out of it as you only turn it on when your about to fire.I still scan with a conventional lamp.
