Do Irish plumbing suppliers stock metric copper? I need a couple of feet of 22mm and a few 22 mm to 3/4in solder adapters to install a new shower pump, the flexis supplied have a 22mm push fit fitting on the ends.

Irish copper will take metric push fittings.

Thanks Shane, how confident would you be though, it's a 3 bar pump, that's an awful mess if it blows off. Irish copper is only 21.05 mm which is a good bit smaller than metric 22mm.

No issue. Every pump is done that way.

If you do decide to buy metric copper and the provider tries to sell you chrome coated copper , make sure you file the chrome off it before using it in the push fitting or it will blow out , but as Shane says there is no issue with Irish copper in the pump connections , if you are nervous about it though and decide to buy 22mm you would probably have to buy a length and not everywhere stocks it , where in the country are you ?

Modern plant used to and probably still sell a brass 3/4 threaded like fitting with a 22mm brass tube coming of it, or post a thread asking anyone if they have any spare pump flexi's as the thread on the pump will be the same

Change the flexi hoses to Irish. I had 3/4 blow out of 22 mm before. Thank god I was beside it when it happened

Never though of them. Just not safe to use on gas but should be fine on a water pump

Agreed, I don't think push-fit and gas go together but there is probably someone out there who will try it

It's already been done by a new entrant to the gas industry and resulted in a KABANG

A few years ago now, but a soldier in England retraining to be a gas fitter used push fit on a supply to a boiler he had fitted and left a brick filled car park where the house used to be.

In December gone, will have a visual on pipework after a boiler service (yes, some do!) found a blanked 1/2 pipe in the livingroom with a push fit stop end!

Worse, another time found a pipe isolated and removed out side a fireplace, iso valve turned off and open end stuffed with......wait for it.....chewing gum!

Worse again, a newly fitted gas hob, NG, piped in (non-barrier....as if that makes a difference on gas) plastic pipe, plumber said no copper was available that day!

It is a known fact that gas cannot get past well compacted & aged chewing gum, so will you please stop scare mongering? Lol

Wriglys peppermint is best. Give it 24 hours and its like you welded it solid.

Avoid golf balls they just fall off after a few weeks

Quick update - pump installed, I couldn't find these so went with a short length of 22mm copper and some 22 x 3/4 310's. Many thanks to Sullzz for donating the 22mm copper, much appreciated!

That's the tube connections that modern plant sell

Thanks, I suspected it was, but they don't open on Saturdays and I can't get to them during the week. Heatmerchants stock 22 x 3/4 310s and are open on Saturdays mornings.

I thought everyone sold 22mm x 3/4 310s I use to give them free with the boilers and a 1/2 meter of 22mm copper. There was fook all money in selling boilers so I was essentially begging for more sales by giving a good service.
