Hi- my grandmother is now 90 and she told me the other day that she never claimed her pension all these years- does anyone know if she would now be entitled to claim for what she missed out on? Would she be able to get a lump sum payment for what she is owed? How would she go about claiming it if she can? Thanks!

This is slightly confusing:eek:.What has she been living on if not a pension? is your grand father dead?if so was he getting a pension before he died?
If your grand father is still alive and claiming his pension then she is probably his QA.
If your grandfather is dead then Your grand mother may be getting a widows contributory pension in respect of your grandfather. If your grandfather was getting pension for the two of them before he died, then this would have stopped when he died and she would have been invited to apply for a widows pension at the time.If that is the case then she would not be entitled to a state pension as well as the widows.
Is she saying that she did not apply for a widows pension?Or is she saying that she would have been entitled to a state pension in her own right at 66 because she had sufficient PRSI contributions but she didnt apply for whatever reason?
Find out what the exact scenario is and we will be able to advise you further.

    Late Claims

A person is disqualified for payment of State Pension (Contributory) in respect of any period more than 12 months before the date on which the claim is made. This disqualification also applies to any increase or allowance. However payment may be further extended beyond 12 months on a proportional basis.

My uncle didn't claim his pension until he was 67. They only backdated it by six months.
