You will be doing well to get GORETEX boots for €120 and a pair of gloves.....try cotters in Dublin for a cheap warm pair of boots.

I got a pair of these delivered from fcmoto.de for €107, great boots for the money, no water getting in at any stage over the winter and its been very wet out.

TCX goretex boots are generally fairly reasonable for what you're getting. Any TCX boots I've had have been 100% waterproof, warm and comfortable. You'd get a decent pair for €100-€140 easily.

I have two pairs of TCX.

    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/67/900/12287/ITEM/TCX-Competizione-S-Boots.aspx

    And

    http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/tcx-x-five-plus-boots

I wear the touring ones more caus im usually walking around when off the bike and the racing ones arnt the most comfortable because they are barely worn, once broken in im sure they will be grand.

Both have never let a drop of water in no matter how heavy the rainhas been and i have never had cold feet while wearing either pair.

Got a pair of Richa touring boots for €100 a couple of months back in emotorcycles in Galway. Been using them all winter and they're great. Warm and waterproof.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,225 ✭✭✭Keith186

I might get them tcx tomorrow so if anyone has any better ideas I'd be interested. Would want to try them on first for a good bit and main use will be for cross city traffic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,704 ✭✭✭Doylers

I opted for a pair of tcx, were more then i planned to spend but if there comfortable i dont mind plus they have good reviews. I bough them offhttp://www.motorcycleshop.ie/ there based in cork. Cost more then say a German online store but I have the ability to go back with them if I want because there a store. Death swith them in past with my richa jacket and pants, exchanged jacket for me no issues plus its perfect now.

Need to find myself a pair of gloves now :D

I can highly recommend Alpinestars 365 for gloves. Their leathers are crap but boots and gloves are very good...;)

They look a nice looking boot and seem to be well priced!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,225 ✭✭✭Keith186

Zascar are they for track use or every day commuting?

Cotters didn't have the ones I was looking for earlier.

Not sure if I could manage wearing them walking around town for an hour or two!

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 12,781 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zascar

Fairly sure they are all rounders. I tried them on and they seemed ok, all boots will loosen up after a few days of wear anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,013 ✭✭✭✭Wonda-Boy

Bet you a score that the sole will fall off them after 6mths....you can see the terrible glue job in the picture. I had a pair of RST tractek boots and went the same road after 5mths. Better off with the Goretex TCX for similar money.

    They are lovely dude.

They look like a good mix between the two pairs of tcx boots i have.
They have less protection than my racing ones but more than my touring one and look comfortable enough for walking around in.

One off them listed is not waterproof. So you can get SS version with and without waterproofing....be careful.

AFAIK, RPM in Drogheda are an agent for TCX boots....always have a good stock level too.

I have the old version for nearly 2 years now and never had any issues and I am all year commuter. They did not let me down in the heavy rain we had this year. And for €99.95 + €10 postage you can't go wrong!

Dont mean to high-jack the thread OP but I am planning on picking up a new pair of boots sometime soon. The plan was to wait for the RDS.

From what I can see im looking at about 100-150 euros for a decent set of boots. Anybody any tips on what to look out for ?

Try to get an actual pair of GORETEX boots, not the brands equivalent like Dainese D-DRY or HG shelltex etc etc. They are not as good, most good boot brands actually offer GORETEX in the brand aswell as their own...I wonder why?

Yes, it will cost you more but you can get them if you shop around. Alpinestars do a very good touring goretex boot that is very plain but very good. I think the police where them and they are very well priced.

I bought these in cotters 2 weeks ago, seem like a good boot but have yet to test them in wet weather. Just watch out though as even though they are 'waterproof' they aren't goretex lined so I'm not sure how waterproof they'll be. Simon said they were shower proof and not expect them to be 100% waterproof like goretex would be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,013 ✭✭✭✭Wonda-Boy

Shower proof LMFAO, every boot is shower proof. A shower lasts what, on average 10mins...in heavy rain dont forget the water coming up off the bike and flooding boots, and dripping down the leg of textiles sitting on top of the boots. That is the true test....

IF a boot says its waterproof and lets in water, take it back simple. Dont be fooled you are paying for the technology so make sure it works. I have had 2 pairs of Goretex water proof boots and both were excellant but I had to return the Dainese as the rubber was ever so slightly peeling away after 3 mths so I changed them for alpinestars goretex and they work a treat.

That's what I'm saying, those tcx aren't goretex, they are only waterproof boots so don't go expecting them to keep your feet dry after a 5 hour ride through torrential rain. If you want goretex boots they're going to cost more as you are paying for the 'goretex' lining/name

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,213 ✭✭✭daenerysstormborn3

I have the TCX X-cube waterproof boots and while they're not goretex (I also have the TCX Infinity Goretex Boots), they are 100% waterproof and warm and they have been tested in the worst weather and never let a drop through.

Haha that’s kinda strange. The boots have the “Waterproof” tag on them – they should be waterproof – i watched a few video reviews on youtube of tcx stuff. They may not be "Goretex" but they are a different version of a similar material. Strange of Simon to Under sell them. How much did you pay for them in cotters?

    Have a look at these

If you can afford to get a race boot get it, the protection on them is fabulous. I got the Alpinestars SMX Plus Goretex boot, obviously I dont race but I wanted the protection it offered and the difference in these and a normal boot is staggering. Yes they were exspensive but well worth it for what you get....

Are they not less comfortable though, and more awkward to walk in etc? I've tried some boots and walking more than a few steps is a pain, its like you've got forrest gump style braces on your legs.
As in the second link I posted above the guy says that unless you are actually using them for racing them may be overkill. I think the TCX SS Sport Waterproof ones look perfect for what I need :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,013 ✭✭✭✭Wonda-Boy

The boots I have are very comfortable. It helps that they are adjustable at the calf with the wratchet system and have an inner soft boot to aid comfort, and the link system from the ankle to the shin adjusts as you walk so you are not locked in the one position like you would be in the race position on a bike. They do not leave your foot like say a set of racing 1 piece leathers hunched into a certain position.

I had them on from 8am to 7pm on sat. while I was out and about and you actually forget you are wearing them. Leppla bought a pair also on my recommendation and he loves them too.
