Is it relatively straight forward for me?

I am 29,unemployed and been renting in Dublin in 2 separate place for over 12 months (both places cost me 500 a month). Don't have kids, wife, savings.

My landlord is through an agency so i doubt there should be a problem there (obviously I am open to correction on that!).

    Cheers.

When did you start renting? When you started renting, could you afford the rent? And how have your circumstances changed that you can no longer afford rent?

Hey Tony - started renting in September 2011.

I could afford it as I had a job.

I have lost job now - hence I can't afford rent anymore of 500 a month.

    Any good?

Yes you should apply, however the rent limit for a single person in Dublin is €475/month.

    Cool!

I wasn't expecting for a moment to have the full 500 covered!

Even i got a small percentage paid for until i get a new job that would be super!

You never get the full amount covered. You must pay €30pw towards your rent. However, the max. the property can cost is €475 and officially you can't pay the extra to get a €500 property. Your landlord will have to agree to sign a new lease at €475 pm and then you should be entitled to €345 pm. Good luck.

Oh - that could make it a bit trickier i think.

    Cheers for the info.

Just looked that up - your dead right!

So i pay 500 and i won't get a Euro where as someone who pays 470 will get a fair chunk of it....Doesn't seem fair or right but life ain't fair I suppose :)

Just get the landlord to sign you up for 475 and you could throw them the 25 separately out of your own money.

You will then only have to contribute 145 per month out of your welfare (120 officially and 25 unofficially). Half the people currently on RA have to make these top ups.

    Yeah - good idea.

I can see this getting complicated though - the landlord wants to put whole apartment up to 1,100 for the two of us which would now mean I am paying 535.

I could see the landlord just saying 'bugger off' and I'll get new tenants as lease is been renewed.

Tis strang the way you don't get a Euro if your over 475. Tis a bit strange the way there is only a 25 Euro difference between Cork and Dublin too!

More bad news, if you're in shared accommodation the limit is lower. It's €300 max for Dublin,(€250 Fingal) when it's sharing with someone. The limits are really low and are forcing people into either ghetto's/ poor quality properties or poverty if they secretly up their payments. Hopefully you'll get a job soon :).
