According to a study by the Boston Consulting Group, which surveyed consumers in 13 countries, on average 75% would give up alcohol, 27% sex and 22% daily showers to secure internet access for a year if forced to choose

Exercise. It'd be like giving up knitting for Easter.

sat nav. people should be able to read a map ffs

I chose coffee. I hate coffee so it was an easy choice.

I went travelling last year and haven't used a mobile phone since then. That was remarkably easy to give up but considering how important the internet is so many facets of my life I would sacrifice anything on that list to keep it.... except maybe alcohol. Life without alcohol would be tough.

Who are these people who need sat nav in ireland? Seriously, how would you even talk someone into spending the money?

Sure, just turn right at O'Grady's pub, left at Hanlon's and past where the O'Toole's used to live, then opposite where Mrs Murphy died (God rest her)
    You'll find it no bother.

Address? Dun Roamin, Ballybeg but just keep going on the old Galway Rd, ye will see us no bother.

On the main roads maybe not,but try and find a rural village somewhere your not familar with using signposts and you'll be asking directions or going in circles.

I could live without alcohol, chocolate and take away food is a must and goes hand in hand with the internet though!

Nope, never had a problem, and i do a fair bit of driving. The odd time i am heading out rural, i print a map. Cheaper, simpler, every bit as effective.

Sat Nav is really crap for rural areas anyway!

Who would give up sex instead of a Sat Nav? Seriously!

    should be multiple choice poll

and should have other choices that match the costs (or we're talking totalitarian state in which case I'll start packing)
    SKY
    Cable TV
    TV
    Cigarettes
    newspapers
    glossy mags
wine (€1 a bottle extra ) (homebrew?)

(Based on loss of ALL internet )

    Fast Food - yeah
Sat Nav - you can get this for €30 so no brainer
Chocolate - yeah (I'd survive on chocolate bought by others)
Coffee - sleep is a poor substitute but if needs must
Alcohol - if I had to
Exercise - , if you want to get fit walk / cycle to the gym
    Sexytime - "lifestyle habbit"
Car - if I had to
Showers/Bathing - yes (daily that is)
Atari Jaguars - does this include the ones with an IP connection ?

Satnav is by far the easiest to give up.
    Googlemaps , printscreen, sorted.
or www.theaa.ie and print out the directions

I'd give up all except exercise and showers. If exercise was purely a gym membership and showers were just daily then I'd probably give them up too.

I'd give up Atari Jaguars, they were not a patch on the 2600.

    Fast Food
    Sat Nav
    Coffee
    Alcohol
    Exercise
    Atari Jaguars

    - I'd go without the above.

    Chocolate
    Sexytime
    Car
    Showers/Bathing

    - These are necessities - especially chocolate! :)

You realise that I meant all consoles like Xbox and Nintendo by that option, right?

You should have said games consoles then.

    :p

The 2600 was still class though, wouldn't have given that up.

    :D

I chose satNav, I don't have a car. I think though, it'd be interesting what it would take to get someone to leave the internet for a year. I mean, rather than take something away, what could you give them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,800 ✭✭✭Senna

That's the crappiest poll ever, they should have added "brushing your teeth with your right hand" about as relevant as some of those choices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,299 ✭✭✭✭MadsL

Christ the amount of people who still don't get Atari Jaguar references in polls after all this time....

    *facepalm*
