Complete gaming pc, 650 budget

Hi there

Have been reading through some of the threads and am a bit lost.
Im looking to build a PC for gaming, Wow/Eve would be my top two games atm.
I like to tab out of one to check stuff from time to time.

I would like a complete pc, software, screen and the likes. Dont need a keyboard or mouse.

I know nothing of overclocking so might leave well enough alone.
Budget is 650.

Had a peek at lb.hardwareversand.de earlier, not sure what im doing so asking here for some advice.

Actually looking at the other threads on here , my budget for a total system is too low.

Assuming 800 ish I was looking at the systems on http://lb.hardwareversand.de/pcconfigurator.jsp?pcConfigurator.res=1&pcConfigurator.gpOnly=0 , specifically the AMD one.

Throwing in a monitor and Windows 7 it brings it up to 900 ish and another 20 for delivery odd, 920 odd.

Is that a solid system or is the CPU a bit on the low side or would it matter for everyday use and gaming, assuming gaming uses more of the GPU if im right?

Any thoughts or should I just try and take a build off the forums and add in the monitor and os and hope for the best.

Worst nightmare would be to get a nice new system where the parts dont work together.

Im sure someone will be on and look it over proper, maybe even throw you together an AMD build which might suit the budget better.

Looking forward to seeing all the options.

Would that build be overclockable at a later stage or would i be looking at a new mb and cpu?

(A friend of mine has been trying to sell me the merits of overclocking)

No not overclockable.
Best CPU for that is €200 and an overclockable mobo would be a few quid more.
Also you need a better fan for the cpu than the one that comes with it.
They start around €25 and go up tp €100+

Overclockable mobos are z77 chipset.
One that gets a good mentioon around here is this one
CPU that are overclockable have a K at the end of their name like these i5 3570k & i7 3770k

Throw out and AMD version, not actually any cheaper than Mr Tules build (price difference is down soley to the graphics card), however the 1GB HD7850 isn't too bad for 1080p gaming.

Only real advantage is that this is overclockable from the get go and the FX-6300 can overclock from the stock 3,5 MHz to 4.6/4.7 MHz pretty easily which is a healthy jump in performance. Also it will be able to upgrade the processor in the future to the steamroller successor of the FX-8350 which will be out by Q4 this year.

Here is a quick question on GPU

whats the difference between this http://lb.hardwareversand.de/2048+MB/57697/Sapphire+HD+7870+2GB+GDDR5+PCI-Express.article at 220

and the lite version at http://lb.hardwareversand.de/2048+MB/62369/Sapphire+Radeon+HD+7850%2C+2GB+GDDR5%2C+lite+retail.article priced at 175 euro odd.

At first glance there is a difference in Core clock speed but assuming the price difference is it that significant?

Performace wise there is probably around 10% in the diference at stock , they have the same core GPU chip but the HD7870 has more shaders, ROPS etc which make it more powerful. A HD7850 is a good overclocker but the HD7870 is argueably even better.

If you are looking at spending 220 I'd maybe get this HIS instead

, I don't think this would be so bad a shade over 920 either. My original CPU upgrade route would still apply.

Its a straight up choice between i5 now and SSD later or SSD now and a better processor later. There no right answer whichever you think would be of more immediately benefit day to to I suppose.

Has anyone tried thier build option for 20 euro or the stress test for 50?

What is a stress test and if you go for it do they build the machine while they are at it?

The build option is fine, the problem arises with UPS handling a fully assembled PC rather than individually packed components in their own boxes wrapped up...

Needless to say, a fully built PC is much more liable to damage in transit, so it's usually recommended to DIY if you've opposable thumbs and are capable of using a screwdriver.

Stress test sounds like a complete pile of unnecessary shíte

Was wondering about that stress test thing alright.

Self build it is.
Now to try and decide which of the excellent builds to go for above.

My only fear of overclocking is making a sham of it and having a melted cpu afterwards

That and hiding the credit card bill from the wife afterwards

Overclocking now compared to a few years ago couldn't really get much simpler, particularly for modest overclocking for day to day use rather than extreme O/Cing.

Quite a few motherboards have an auto overclock function, or come with manufacturer software to do the same. This is the easy way out (if available). Realistically though, it's as simple as going into the BIOS and changing the multiplier until you've got the target, save and boot. For any modest overclock there's no need to go near voltages, so there shouldn't be any excessive temps generated. As long as you have the cooler on right, which is probably the hardest part of the whole process (and it's really not that hard) - you're sorted. In fact, hiding the bill from your Missus will probably prove harder than overclocking :P
