Why are there always tomatoes on pre-made sandwiches. Every fupping time...

    Label: Ham and cheese
Ingredients: ham, cheese, tomato and onion

    Label: Ham
    Ingredients: ham, tomato and mustard

    Label: Cheese
    Ingredients: cheese,lettuce & tomato

    Label: Chicken
    Ingredients: chicken, tomato and mayo

Does my head in trying to buy a premade sandwich with no nasty soggy tomato infecting the bread.

The tomato revolution starts here, who's with me?

OP, given your location, is it not avocado you should be complaining about? Its everywhere and on/in everything in Cali. Horrible stuff.

    Buy a freshly made sandwich

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Watcha talking 'bout. Avocado's lovely. Had it last week with smoked salmon on brown bread. Yumm. And that's before I even mention guacomole.

You should be on your knees thanking your lucky stars you can afford a sandwich. I've taken to eating dust.

Don't take this the wrong way OP but someone who buys pre packed sandwiches can hardly be a judge of what is or isn't acceptable in a sandwich.
    Just sayin

Love tomatoes in a sambo makes it a bit juicy.

Soggy tomato sandwiches are fantastic, never found anyone else who actually agrees with me on this thou :)

Buy your sandwich in the morning and then just leave it on the radiator until lunch. Problem solved.

Why would I put tomatoes on my own sandwich?

Oh, and given my location it's pronounced "tomatoes"...

I love tomatoes in sandwiches, but only if freshly made - not sitting in a package for a day or two.
And they put them in almost all those packaged ones - are they thick or what? Surely they do market research.

You should try a toast sandwich.
    • Toast a thin slice of bread
    • Butter two slices of bread and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste
    • Place the toast between the two slices of bread-and-butter to form a sandwich

I'm a bit weird when it comes to tomatoes. I hate them sliced in sandwiches and burgers (too wet) but like them in a salad.

Sun dried, I'd eat them with anything though.

Mystery to me too, considering there isn't a good piece of tomato to be found in the entire country. Why put a tasteless soggy unripe piece of tomato... I'll always wonder.

    Fresh tomatoes are lovely.

I'm going to buy a sandwich toaster tomorrow so I can make nutella toasties.

Fuppin tomatoes are the bane of my life too OP. They are on everything and when ya try pick them out there's always seeds left in there and the juice has soaked into the bread.

You should think your self lucky to have a variety of fillings to get tomatoes with, being a vegetarian in this country is a nightmare if you want to pick up a sandwich in a hurry. My choices are usually tuna sweetcorn(hate sweetcorn) or egg mayo and I've never been able to stomach an egg I haven't cooked myself. Mostly I end up having a pack of crisps or a chocolate bar.

Tis a retrospective moan. I'm nostalgic for the delights of the Centra culinary school.

I always wondered where the international branches of the International House of Pancakes are though.

The importance of Centra delis can't be understated, they fueled the Celtic Tiger. I always try to get a spicy chicken roll or brown bread sandwich with lettuce when I'm back home.

They actually grow "juiceless" tomatoes for those prepacked sambos. Was on some documentary on channell 4 I think..... I fecking love tomatoes. Made myself a tomato sambo today. With some mayo- yum yum

In my experience it's mayo that's omnipresent.

Nope, just feels that way in Dublin during hurling season.

Don't mind a small bit of tomato in a sandwich. But there's nothing worse than getting one of those pre-packed sandwiches and opening it to realise that its 90% soggy tomato.

I think they may have done it wrong, coz there's 'juice' in any of the ones I've ever gotten.

Worse than a sandwich rendered soggular by the application of tomatoes is a toastie containing said fruit. The juice is best described as FVCKING MOLTEN!

I cut the middle of the tomato out if I'm putting it in a sandwich.

The thing I hate is mayonnaise in a sandwich.
    Bring back real butter!

Sliced pan, butter, ham, tomato... The sandwich of champions :D

Me too. I used to reeeeeally hate them, but started trying them in salads a few years ago and now quite like them.It has to be the cherry ones though. Am a bit hit and miss with them in sambos though tbh. I think its the "fruit" in a savoury thing for me, i hate pineapple on pizza aswell.

    AAaaaaaahhhhh

That is exactly what the OP is talking about!

This is an anti-tomatoes thread ; not a tomato cheerleading competition.

Spawn of Satan Sandwich fillers. I HATE TOMATOES.

Banish them from the kingdom FOREVER or LIST the feckers as an ingredient & I will spend my money elsewhere!!!

I totally agree with a couple of the posters - every single pre-packed sandwich has bloody mayonaise in them. I would pay twice the price for a sarnie without that horrible stuff in it.......it's like satan had a hand shandy on the bread!

I love tomatoes so can't agree with the OP - ham, cheese and tomato is so damn nice. Hell, even just freshly made tomato sandwiches are beautiful. But why do the sandwich makers insist of forcing mayo on everyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭humbert

It's the dirty fake oily spreadable butter that puts me off prepacked sandwiches.
