Completely blank? Not even the mobos manufacturer logo? Does the board have on board graphics as well as a GPU? Have you connected to the correct video output?

To add, is there any power indicator light on the monitor?

yes the monitor powers up when you switch it on and says no signal.
the monitor is connected to the D sub port.

The motherboard is AS rock zh77 pro 3. It has 2 ports for monitor. 1 DSUB and 1 HDMI. My monitor only has DSUB cable option so thats where I put it.

the monitor is connected to the D sub port.

    Answer these questions please:
    1. Does the power indicator light come on on the tower?
    2. Is there another graphics output on the back of the tower (apart from the D Sub port (HDMI,DVI another VGA?
    3. Do you hear the fan(s) in the tower when you switch on the PC?
    4. Did you get the monitor with the PC or is it an older monitor?
    5. Does the monitor have any other "Inputs" apart from power and D-Sub?
    6. Do you have access to a second monitor?

I just realised the new monitor requires an adapter as it has a german plug on the end of it so it looks like Ill have to come back to it tomorrow
    thanks for your help though

Looking back at your build thread don't you have a GPU as well? If you have already installed it it may have disabled the onboard video, which would be why you can't get a signal on the VGA port.

If it is just a kettle lead connector you may be able to swap it with the connector on the other monitor......

Ok thanks. what do I have to do?

You might need a DVI-VGA adapter to connect the monitor to the video card:

    dvi-to-vga-adapter__34291_zoom.jpg

The VGA port is most likely on the onboard video, which was disabled by the video card.

Ok thanks. what do I have to do?

Plug the monitor into the external GPU.

(The answer to question 2 above would be critical in fixing this "issue".)

Yep, they're the ones you need to connect it to.
