Car insurance No claims Discount

    My car insurance is up. I have a full 5 years plus no claim discount. On the no claims cert it also states i have 8years Number of years claim free under this policy.

    Now i am pricing up online and some companies/brokers ask how many years no claims discount i have? Some go to 5 while others go to 9 years. What should i put in 5 or 8? Thanks

    If they are giving the option for more than 5 years on their online application then you can put down 8 years.

    Thanks mgbgt. I rang my current insurer as im putting the OH on the insurance and they quoted me over the phone over 1100... I then went onto there website and got quoted 1/2 the price 564.Thats why im looking around.

    You should always shop around.

    The maximum number to allow a discount is five but you've got 8 so say 8.

    I shop around every year. But 2 get completely different quotes from my own insurer is a joke. I have sent them a nice mail asking for an explanation.

    It's to entice new custom in. A large proportion of people out there still to this day just accept their renewal and pay it. :)

    I have the same problem now - renewal came in post and it is over 100 more than it was one year ago so I went thru all insurance I could find.
    From Axa to Zurich, and comprehensive with windscreen, driving other cars 200 excess step back etc. - it range from 400 (Axa) to 1500 (Aviva) ! and Tesco, Liberty and Zurich don't want to insure me ;-)

    Car is old Merc C200 2.0 and I have driving licence for 18 Years.

    My OH is only just got learner permit. I have quotes on Audi A1 auto from €394 to €1400. Zurich quoted me 620 I think. Liberty didn't quote asked me to call.
