The front grille is just huge. Not a big fan of it, though the rest of the car, including the interior looks very nice.

    more pics here.

Looks like that thing could hoover up small children as it drives by.

Was waiting for this, thought there was a big reveal on the 15th of this month. IS there a 2.5 hybrid coming here?
Thats the F sport. Even the current model F sport looked fairly agressive. I expect the standard version to be quite tame. I dont think its a huge step over the old one appearance wise.

Well it's only the concept so don't expect the exterior to look anything like that.
The interior is gorgeous though, very driver focused.

not a concept. this is the actual production car based on the LF-CC concept

Right you are, that's some pretty crazy styling then.

I'm into companies actually putting out cars that look like their concepts though, it takes balls.

Yeah there doesn't seem to be space on the side for the licence like on an alfa.

That grill is fecking hideous, it's like bullbars without the spaces.

I think it works but the photo is giving an odd effect due to the shape of the 'mesh' in the grill.

Yeah I get ya, looks better in this one but it needs bigger wheels. They look lost.

    Edit: Bleeding massive picture!

That just looks like your typical toyota facelift, keep virtually all the sheet metal the same then change the lights and bumpers and end up with something that looks cobbled together. If someone did that to their IS it'd be in the skangermobile thread.

    Harsh!

At least the interior is not bad. I was disgusted with the old one, far too much avensis about it. Then again, if I sit into this, I might find switches and buttons lifted straight out of the avensis.

Still not sure if its photoshopped. There's no way they'll try selling that? Seriously?

If you look closely, you can still see the grill behind the camo vinyl.

    It's absolutely f**king rank.

Don't be daft, you're either blind or you actually sat in an Avensis. There is nothing Avensis-like about the IS interior. Sharing the stalks for the wipers and indicators is about all, and they're actually fine to begin with.

Ya, they screwed up a nice looking car when they did that to the Fiesta. Real fake-Aston look about their new Mondeo and the rest now.

Walter de Silva has a lot answer for alright. But when last did you see that many curves, concave and convex surfaces on a German car?

Think this new Lexus looks awful - it's like looking at it through one of those fun house mirrors - except it's really like that!

Don't know why all the hate for the Audi grilles though - I quite like them! :p

    .

Actually, I sat into an IS after having an avensis on hire for a couple of weeks. It was the multifunction steering wheel buttons that got me and the hand brake was like sonething from 10 years earlier. If I remember correctly, the drivers seat didnt go down very much either. All very much avensis traits.

I agree that the outgoing model is attractive and I thought about buying one a while back. Took it on trial but the interior was shocking! Just shocking. Hard plastics all over the place. It was just a Toyota inside, and a cramped one at that. I was extremely disappointed with the interior and that was only coming from the last model Accord (2006) at that time.

That, coupled with the chronic fuel consumption and 'wrong' gearing meant that I handed it back early. Pity because it was pretty comfortable and looked nice but it wasn't for me.

It's not shocking at all, and no Toyota uses similar plastic. It's a high quality interior, but some folk don't recognise one I guess. Autocar actually praised the interior and they usually slate most interiors.
The gearing ratio is shíte though, as is consumption.

Ah it is far from good and its nowhere near where a premium car should be now. Lexus interiors dont do it for me. The current LS is good but apart from that I dont like the designs or materials used.
It is a high quality interior when placed beside a corolla but that only goes to further prove my point.
Japanese interiors in general dont work for me. Even if they use a good soft touch material, they make it with a cheap shiny finish or at least that is how I see it.

The interior on the new GS is really nice. Probably the best in its class at present.

Toyota do usually use a cheap looking shiny finish, even look at the last Camry to be sold here, cheap and shiny. But the current IS doesn't have that, it's a Matt finish. The cabin plastics are certainly at or around C-Class and E90 levels, although not at A4 levels, where VW and Audi are particularly good.

Edit: - Steve Sutcliffe agrees with me! http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/first-drives/lexus-is250

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Sorry yes, I have not experienced this in person yet. Old GS which I considered buying was ok but alittle 'old man' and of course had the drivers seat made for a guy about 4'5". New GS doesnt look bad. I quite like the styling of this new IS too.
