    Hi all,

I'm looking for suggestions for a few bottles of beer that I could buy to bring over to a beer loving friend in the US. Would particularly like to get something that's currently only available to buy in Ireland.

I read an article about a recent addition to the Irish Craft Beer scene in Food & Wine Magazine recently that's currently only available in Dublin - but I can't remember the name.

He's particularly fond of IPA's - but all suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Galway Hooker
    Trouble Brewing's Or

Can't go wrong with those two. Carlow's beer are available in the US so he might be able to get their IPA over there.

Possibly Five Lamps Lager? It's a general run-of-the-mill Lager, in my opinion.

I'd say it was Dr Rudi. You'll definitely get it in L. Mulligan Grocer and WJ Kavanagh's. Not sure if the decent off licences have it as well.

For an IPA lover, I'd go for White Gypsy American IPA. I'm reasonably sure it doesn't get exported either. The likes of Eight Degrees Knockmealdown, Whitewater Clotworthy Dobbin and Hilden Barney's Brew are also great beers, and while I think some of them do get exported I don't think any are in the US yet.

I'd add Porterhouse Hophead and Hilden Twisted Hop to the list but wouldn't bother with Trouble Ór myself.

I'd be pretty confident in saying that Beoir Chorca Dhuibhne beer cannot be had in USA.

Any idea which off licenses stock this? No info on their website.

They both have it (checked today). Gibneys, McHughsx2, Martins and Jus de Vin might have some.

Just another one to the fine ones which were mentioned in this thread,White Gypsy which is brewed in Templemore, not to sure where to get it here in Dublin, though I have tried it on draught on numerous occasions in different locations in Tipp.

DrinkStore for sure, but probably Deveney's, Redmond's, McHugh's and the usual other places.

Galway Hooker in bottles unfortunately isn't as hoppy as it is on draught, so for someone that likes IPAs Porterhouse's Hop Head is on the money. It's also a 330ml bottle so you can fit more in your luggage!

Dr. Rudi? Who brews this? I've never heard of it.

True, though it is available in the US.

It was brewed on the Eight Degrees kit by the Brown Paper Bag Project, a beer label run by the guys behind L. Mulligan Grocer and WJ Kavanagh's.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't recommend galway hooker or toruble brewing Or for someone who likes IPA (I'm assuming this means hoppy and refreshing).

Thornbridge (not Irish and no idea if available in US) do a great range - Jaipur,Kipling and for something slightly different Raven (dark IPA).

O'Haras IPA is really good (someone mentioned that it's available in US) and Dungarvan Helvick Gold might be suitable also.

Don't limit yourself to what's not available in the US. People don't seem to understand just how absolutely enormous the US actually is.

Think of each state as a different country. For example, for years, Bells (Michigan) was not available in Illinois, which is the other side of the lake. It was available in Alabama which is on the gulf of Mexico.

If Porterhouse is not available in his state, then go for it as hop head is one of the closest examples to many American hop forward pale ales.

Has made it to the US, and available in the US... very big place, not necessarily the same thing.

Someone into IPAs prolly won't be into this beer.

I tried this before Christmas and was thoroughly unimpressed. It had a slight tang that reminded me of some of my less successful home brew endeavours.
