Adverts or search for the fe1 manual thread in this forum. Probably cost about 40 quid. Dont buy the latest one, buy last years one to save money. They wont be in book shops.

Not only would I advise getting the criminal one, but any other subject youre studying, get one for that too, they are invaluable.

The manuals on their own will be more that enough for the D.I.T post grad. If you know those manuals cover to cover you will breeze any exam they give you.

Independent College's Criminal Law manual (I've the Kings Inns one) is outstanding. I've various manuals now and never paid more than €30 quid for them. The Land Law manuals are know to be the weakest for all three institutions.

NoQuarter has forgotten more than I'll ever know but having been using the manuals now I do what to sound a note of caution. The manuals will allow you the breeze through problem questions, however, they do not provide enough background for essay questions - despite providing snippets of academic commentary. That's not to say you wouldn't pass.

I do qualify the above by saying that we have an excellent Criminal Law lecturer at GCD but she is very, very demanding when it comes to the standard of reading she expects students to have done.

Badly if yesterdays exam was anything to go by!

Joking aside the manuals give you the pointers; I would suggest reading in full what they summarise especially the Law Reform Commission reports. Don't read the whole thing just the sections pointed out. That said the LRC snippets are very good in the Indo manual.

Articles just read off Westlaw - I find articles just really interesting to read in all honesty. An example is there is a brief reference to an article by McAleese on the Murray judgement in the manual. I'd read things like that in full, even if you just skim over them. In a problem question you can just use the snippet - that she said that three of the judgements (I forget which three - I'm a very poor student) could be interpreted as one pleases - obviously an essay will require quite a bit more.

NB Be very careful to get a Land Law manual newer than 2010 because of the LCLRA. Oh and I got a great bit of advice off the Land Law lecturer when I started this year. I mentioned that everyone says Land Law is a nightmare and she told me that if you take that attitude (as many do) you will find it difficult. If you keep an open mind it's easier. I have to say once I managed not to get hung up on the language(s) it was a breeze(ish).
