If you want to stay close to the road, I'd suggest Athenry or Galway Bay. Slightly further afield would be Portumna or Gort. Not sure how wet any of these will be, but Galway Bay should be the driest.

Others en route would be Ballinasloe, Loughrea and Cregmore Park

Not Ballinasloe, has deteriorated over the last 12-18 months

Athlone GC is only 5 mins from junction 12 off the motorway.
Mount Temple is about 15 mins from the motorway. Have heard great things about Portumna if you want to venture off the motorway

I played a round with two members over the Christmas who said the exact same thing.

i only ever played it once about 4 years ago, was nearly killed by a stray ball on the overlapping fairway - can't remember hole number. Never again.

Played Portumna a while back. Good course with some nice features and good variation to the holes.

Hope it improves by the time July comes around. Junior Cup qualifiers for Connacht on there this year

15 and 16 overlap and if you hit your driver on the 2nd, you're likely to fly onto the 15th fairway. Not something you would know if you didnt play the course before.

Loughrea would be the best of these three in my opinion and usually a very reasonable course to play.

However as scrubber72 highlighted there's an open day on Fri in Galway Bay so hard to beat that, course holds the water very well and some good variation of holes. Good test of golf.

Got to be Galway Bay GC. Top course & most playable in winter
(Friday €25 only if booked online !!)

Portumna, Loughrea & Athenry in drier weather.

Athlone GC +/- Glasson Gc are also well worth a visit, but a slog in the wet.
