Medical Insurance/Travel Insurance

I'm planning a short trip to the US in the next couple of months and am currently looking at travel insurance options.

The main aspect of the policy I'm interested in is medical cover. Due to what I've heard about the American medical sector I want to make sure that I'm covered should anything go wrong.

I currently have private health insurance with VHI so I need to check if that would cover me.

Otherwise I'm down to looking at the like of a VHI multi-trip policy/Axa etc....

I'm wondering if any of you have any recommendations? I'd like bells and whistles on it!!

For the US you should have a minimum 2 million dollars in medical cover. Sounds crazy but medical fees are astronomical. You will have a certain amount of cover with your medical insurance, travel insurance will top this up. Also be sure your cover includes repatriation.

Do you see any travel insurance provider as being better than any other?

Most of the insurance companies have almost identical packages. My last annual policy was with AIB actually, got a good price. Have also used getcover.ie and justcover.ie

For the US, annual policies work out (with health insurance discount) as cheap as a single trip policy in most cases.
