System upgrade: no signal to monitor now

Hi, I recently upgraded to an i5. I got a new mobo and RAM too. I've spent the last hour or so setting it all up. I'm pretty sure all the PSU connections are in place.

When I power up, no signal is being sent to the monitor. The desktop seems to be functioning properly (case fan, CP My U cooler fan are spinning). My GPU's fans are spinning too. My DVD drive is functioning too.

Any tips? What might be wrong? One difference I found between the 2 mobo connections (old and new) is I had a 4 pin (2x2) "CPU@ connection on my mobo. I connecting one of the two blue PSU connections to it. One of the blue connectors has CP on it. The other has U1 on it. I used one of these to connect to a connection that had CPUFAN written on it on the mobo. I can't find that same connection on my Asrock Pro3 Z77.

    Thanks in advance :(:(

Edit, scratch that, it said JPWR2 on the mobo, so it's likely that the PSU connector i connected into it was doing nothing.

Should I try booting without the GPU first so that I can install Windows?

Are you plugging your vga/hdmi/dvi into the motherboards video slot or the GPU slot. You will have to plug into into the gpu one if the gpu in installed.

The 24 pin slot is of course connected. The ATX 12v power connector is not connected, I think I connect the CPU blue ones to this? (They seem to slot in together just like the 20 + 4 pin). I read just there that the CPU requires additional power provided by these connectors.

Edit to replay above. The GPU is connected to the monitor. Do you think my suggestion above is the solution? I think it is. I'm going to conect the 2 blue ones to it now.

Yes it probably is. They plug in usually near the top corner near the northbridge.

Thanks. It is I believe. My older board had the same thing, only 4 pin, and it's the one I alluded to above (JPWR2). This answer seems to give credence to this. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110702154549AAH6Djb

Thanks! THis is only the second time I've done major "building", so I'm so nervous booting for the first time :D Here's hoping.

OK. There has been a change. I remember when I first installed my Phenom 2 years ago, and put the hyper 212 plus on it, it automatically spun at 100% (I had to manually change this in the BIOS - in fact it ran at 100 for over a year cos I assume dit was normal lol). The fan is now clearly spinning at 100 (up from when I booted it 10 mins ago without 8 pin thing connected.

But there is still no signal to the monitor. Any ideas?

    Edit:

I can try things like swap the RAM for the older pair I had, 2x2gig instead of the 2x4gig I have now. Would that help?

Does the motherboard have an error display? And if not does it give any beeps after you power it on?

It gives no beeps. All fans seem to be working (indeed, as they did when I first powered the system on 2 and a half years ago). Just no signal to the monitor.

You think it's just a missed connection somewhere?

What motherboard have you? You might not have installed the speaker into it for the beeps. If there is no video then something has gone wrong.

What I would do is take all components out and reseat them making sure they are tightly in. Then if it still doesn't work start by removing components one at a time and starting up until you find the problem. Start with the ram. Remove one stick, then the other etc
