    Hi

My car is due its annual service. Nothing wrong touch wood but think I'll need front brake pads

I live in D11 but work towards Dundrum. Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced garage in either location? Or a decent mobile crowd either?

    Thanks in advance

PS what would you expect the damage to be on the brake pads?

    .........

    Diesel Insignia Elite, 10 reg

They can be heavy on discs, don't be surprised if they're needed along with pads :)

Annual service???? Unless your doing very small mileage it should be serviced every 8-10 k km.
Pads will pads front n rear guessing €70...disks are a different story

theres a Garage in Ranelagh ... cant remember the name of the street, but its run by two guys, if you are coming from Ranelagh towards Dublin City Centre ...take the last right turn before the canal and first left....its a narrow street.

its run by two guys, I find them very reasonable price wise and as a non-motor head they explain things in english.

If you have more money than sense, then you'd get it serviced every 8-10 k km.

I'll have a look on the system tomorrow to give you a rough price for pads.

We don't use anyone either around D11 or Dundrum. Duffy's know how to charge for servicing, and as you are out of warranty, there is little use going main dealer anyway.

Cameron Cars (http://www.cameroncars.ie/servicing.php) are Porsche specialists, so I'd say they can handle a Diesel Insignia.

In Tallaght, Hillside garage. Lenny is good and fairly priced. Industrial estate to the back of woodies on tallaght bypass.

It's not D11 but it is close enough to Dundrum for you (if you squint a bit):D

Just looking online, there are numerous places in Sandyford

Has anyone any experience of Sandyford Motors, a google search threw up an old boards thread recommending them.

I've also come across servicingstop.ie, their prices are quite keen & they pick up & return your car

Atlas Sandyford don't seem too bad price wise

Any help, recommendations or avoidance guidance much appreciated!

I also got a recommendation for Brendan Pidgeon Motors, Rathmines based but can easily get to Dundrum from there if I drop off in the morning

Was also told that the Insignia needs oil called GM Dexos 2, and to buy this myself & supply the garage servicing. Must admit I'm clueless about this type of thing!

There should be no need for this. It's not a particularly specialised oil so any garage should be able to supply it.

Discs were a recall in the UK on earlier models, we ended up replacing discs at silly mileage.

The early cars got discs made by Cadburys it seems.

Recently did a set of front pads on an Insignia at 55k. Parts are down as just over €100 + VAT, with probably an hours labour.

Also, make sure the garage do use the GM oil - I know Opel have had issues with Insignia Diesels where the correct grade oil was used, but not the GM spec.

Any reputable garage will be using the correct oil and will have this on your invoice so that shouldn't be an issue.

IMO if you don't trust the garage to use the correct parts then you should't trust them to work on the car at all.

Totally agree with Nissan hear. Any garage worth there salt at all will be using the correct oil. I wouldn't be impressed if I was servicing someone's car and they got there own oil as they we thinking I wouldn't use the correct oil.
