Nexus 4 Availability (please God)

Forgetting about our domestic phone networks (O2, Three, Vodafone etc..) will Expansys or some other vendor be selling the Nexus 4 unlocked and at reasonable prices in Ireland?

Any ideas how to get your hands on one?

Sold out worldwide and continuing stock woes, are LG going to manufacture some more for our convenience?

I want to give my money to some company for a Nexus 4. Do you?

Do you have general comments about the launch of the Nexus 4 and how much you want one?

    :)

If you want to spend €550, you can get one from Amazon.

I'd much prefer the Google Play prices but sadly they do seem hard to come by. Glad someone's making some cash out of it! I have €400 set aside and hoping that the internet will do the rest.

Why do you want one? Based on reviews their not great beside the good screen and the pretty back.

Have you hands on experience with one? Have you held it in your hands at the same time as a SG3 and latest iPhone? Can you show me a sim free phone for 350 euro that even comes close to its performance?

I didn't hold one. That's why I said "based on reviews" . Your not really going to get it for that price here. $300 is for the US. As far as availability was told the price would be significantly higher outside US.

Thats why I don't see the point of it. The only real good thing about it is that Google will keep your device updated a lot longer than an OEM would.

You can get the Nexus 4 delivered to your nearest Parcel Motel for €365. The iPhone 5, SGSIII, Note II and One X are all at least €200 more than that.

What really amazes me is the amount of money people are willing to pay for phones these days. Hats off to Google for putting it up to manufacturers and hopefully Pantech are following suit (after their CES announcement).

Do you mind me asking what reviews you have read about the Nexus 4? I read the Android Police review and it painted the Nexus 4 out to be the best piece of hardware (not just phone) ever made.

Most of the things I've seen reviews give out about are lack of LTE (doesn't affect us), no SD card (seriously? How many times have Google said why they don't want SD cards in Nexus phones, get over it and stop whining its not going to happen, if you want more storage you know not to look at a Nexus) and lastly the non-removable battery (really? How many times does the average user change their battery or carry around a spare?). The things that really matter about the Nexus 4 it has; price, screen, processor/RAM, latest Android version.

Based on what reviews its not great? The only reason it got knocked down on review scores on US sites is that it doesn't have LTE. In Ireland this doesn't mean anything as the service is not even operating here.

I can honestly say its a brilliant phone; the best Android phone currently on the market, its after replacing my Galaxy Nexus. Former HTC Desire, Nexus S and Galaxy S2 owner..
Great screen, beautiful hardware design and user experience.

Jeez didnt mean to get attacked by a bunch of fans.

Your all misleading. I asked why did the OP want one. Verge, Engadget, PhoneArena all gave in my opinion mediocre opinion.

Maybe I was missing our on something. I just didn't see the massive difference. You could probably pick up an S3 on adverts around 350

Why compare a new Nexus 4 to a second hand phone?
Nexus 4 cost me 357 euro delivered to my Irish address via Google UK.

Glad I'm not the only one to notice the difference in the reviews from the UK compared to the launch reviews from the USA and let's face it, Irish consumers and mobile infrastructure is closer to the UK experience.

Stick Google nexus 4 review into a search engine band you'll find recent European reviewed are stating it performs at least equal to the SG3 or iPhone 5 and surpasses in some areas. The only slight weakness is the camera compared to the SG3 but the few hundred quid you'll save will buy you a real camera!

Don't dismiss having access to the latest OS updates either, I felt sorry and frustration for friends and family showing me their latest android devices over Christmas which were shipping with ICS or older. My days of waiting for HTC, Samsung et al and then Vodafone/o2 to decide when I get updates are over.

I'd personally want a 'real' camera experience with a phone. Who carries around a camera anymore (besides people more serious about their photos)?

You're basically saying you have to pay what your saving would be vs a GS3 and buy a capable camera. No thanks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,330 ✭✭✭Gran Hermano

Nexus 4 camera is more than capable, it is comparable to latest iPhone, and more than sufficient for 99 percent of users. The SG3's camera is marginally better.

How did you get it via Google UK if you don't mind me asking? Really interested in getting it!

Sign up through using a UK proxy. Not sure whats the story with delivery, but you can get it shipped to a parcel motel and pick it up from there.

Fair enough to the other points above anyway.

    Absolute nonsense.

You can get the the galaxy s3 for €439 on amazon.es. About an extra €80 more. Where you are getting €200 from I don`t know, unless you are buying directly from a three store or the likes!!

€80 more for a better camera and potentially 64gb extra storage.

As for latest version of pure android and all that... you can customize android so much that you can ignore the bloatware.

To some 80 for a slight increase in quality might not be worth it for them.

I got a 64GB card msd card so it would be wasteful to get a Nexus 4 for me. Some people just couldn't care less. Average Joe would barely ever come close to 16GB.

I don't think people are implying about pure android. Its the fact that nexus 4 will be the first one to get all the updates and for the longest period of time. Well after the S3 probably.

Yeah clearly because all those phones aren't €200 more in Carphone Warehouse. Excuse me for not checking every single mobile phone seller for the cheapest deals.

You stated that the galaxy s3 and other phones was at least €200 more than the nexus 4. Even on the amazon uk site the S3 goes for €490, (€130 more, not at least €200 more).

If you`ve gone to the trouble of ordering from play store, using tunnelbear etc.. your more than capable of getting your facts straight about the price of other phones!!

Anyway off topic, at the end of the day, for the price the Nexus 4 is a great phone and will serve alot of people just fantastically.

All im saying is that for some people, the extra money for the S3 may be worth it. Not the mention the availability of it, you can get it in a matter of days online.

If I could interrupt the pissy slapfight for a second, would any of the lovely people who've been lucky enough to acquire a Nexus4 off Google UK via a proxy be able to share whether a UK CC no. is required? I assume as much, just thought I'd clarify. Cheers.

Jeez calm down. I wasn't entirely correct fair enough, I just wanted to point out the price difference, which you can't argue with.

Also I never ordered the Nexus 4 from the Play Store or anywhere else.

This is a huge selling point for me. Sick of waiting on the JB update for the HTC One X from Three to be honest. My next phone will be a Nexus for sure as long as they keep producing good quality phones.

Interesting to hear! I am a Galaxy Nexus owner and it is by far the best phone I have ever used ( prewvioulsy had HTC, Sony etc)
So how much better than the Galaxy Nexus is it ??

I tried using Expat Shield for the Play store but it kept defaulting to USD.

I've read a number of reviews the Verge review and Engadget both highlighting no LTE being the main reason they weren't really sold on it but otherwise a great phone for the €350 mark. LTE won't affect me and I think it's a steal for the Google Play price. The Verge mentioned screen cracking could be an issue.

    Can I just ask :

    1. How to go about using a secure UK proxy? (currently using daveproxy.co.uk )

    2. What's a Parcel Motel?
