Ford Focus C-Max - real running costs?

    Hi lads,

I'm looking at getting a 2004 - 2006 Focus C-Max, seems to be great value out there. My wife currently drives an old opel corsa and its just not up to the job of bringing our new arrival too and from childcare, along with going to the shops.

I've got a 06 Focus Saloon 1.6 petrol myself and find it great, i get around 7.2 l/km, or so the computer tells me. I find the car great, but i worry that the C-Max might be a thirsty boat on the town runs in comparison to this.

Does anyone have any experience of the C-Max 1.6 petrol? I've read some of the older threads and i hear that 35mpg was mentioned, i can live with that.

    Thanks

My mum currently runs an '06 C-Max 1.6 petrol. She would get on average between 8 and 9 litres/100km. That is a lot of stop/start driving around town.

You're looking at about 6.5 litres/100km at motorway speeds for long trips down the country.

They are a nice car, plenty of space in them to accommodate even 5 adults comfortably, and a huge boot (maybe not octavia standards).

I don't think the car is underpowered either, I could drive it on when needed.

She had a C-max before this and will be coming up a few years in the next few months to the newer C-max. It's a good family car.

Thanks for that, its hard to find an honest answer on the net. I can certainly live with that sort of millage. My wife would be doing similar stop/start driving around the town.

My wife has been driving an 05 C max for the last few months. I can't remember the miles per litre but I've zeroed the clock a few times with the tank full and it does 600km doing short runs. Not sure if that helps, perhaps you could find out the tank capacity and do the maths. Her job is 2 miles from the house so it's nearly always short trips.

Driving it in the wicklow mountains with 4 adults wasn't much fun :)
If you were using it for a few kids and buggies, it's perfect. At a guess (total guess), I'd say it does 33 miles per gallon on short runs. Lots of space in it, I love driving it, really it's so comfortable but I'm a bangernomics type so I'm not the best judge.

08 CMax, 1.6 TDCI - She does runs to work and creche, around 10 miles each way, at the weekend I see it was sitting at 42mpg.
