Can't find my logbook

Having new windows and some insulation put in the house, so there's been an awful lot of moving of "stuff". I need to book an NCT for my car but I have mislaid my logbook, tax, and insurance details

Searched high up and low down twice, no joy. How do I get a new one issued and does it take long?

Tried to ring the motor tax office in Galway but they shut at 3.30pm apparently.

Is it something I can get done in the tax office then and there? As I will be there Wednesday.

Where a Vehicle Registration Certificate has been lost or destroyed Form RF134 must be completed and forwarded to the vehicle owner's local motor tax office. This form must be witnessed and stamped by a member of An Garda Siochana. This form is available at all motor tax offices or can be downloaded at http://www.motortax.ie. A motor tax office will charge 12 Euros for this service.

I was in the same position just recently and rang the NCT, who told me that I didn't need the log book/registration for the test, just the money and ID, either a drivers licence or passport.

I did the test ok, no logbook and they dont require tax or insurance evidence either. Incidentally, I rang motor registration in Shannon and got one computerised/recorded menu after another, but didn't get the option to talk with an actual real person, which is why I rang NCT in the end.

    You'll be fine!

    Oh, that's good to hear!

I'll give the NCT a bell in the morning. Am mad with myself for misplacing it, it's not like me to do that, and of course I had to have all three together!

Thanks advertsfox and sogood, I will get to work in the morning :)

Hit 0 when the recording starts, you'll get "I'm sorry, I cant understand you" and it will start again, repeat another 2 times and you'll be put through to reception. Their phone system is a joke, honestly believe it's to get you to hang up in frustration before you can talk to someone!

OP, I did my NCT last month in Naas and wasn't asked for the book. Nor was anyone else waiting while I was there IIRC.

Yeah just noticed on the NCT site they were open until 8pm so I rang and booked my test, needed to call twice as they wanted the last six numbers of the chassis number. The previous owners name was still down. I know the logbook was changed to my name so guess that was just NCT records, I dunno! Hope there's no more problems lol.

For a replacement VLC (Log Book), fill in the RF134, take it to the Garda station for them to stamp and sign and then head in to your local tax office with €12.

Will probably take a couple of weeks for the replacement to arrive as they are issued from Shannon.

Thanks, I'll get onto that in the morning, biggest problem will be catching up with the local cop, tis like chasing shadows!

That's crazy. I had a car over there in November and forgot the book and was told that they wouldn't issue a cert until I produced the log book. It was even down as a fail on the test sheet
